it's all about planning ahead. If you are preforming on stage.. then prepare all your files before hand.

How am I supposed to prepare something I play on the fly? So, let's say I record an audio clip of an acoustic guitar ...

@ Machinate- I use the session view for building the tracks, then copy and paste them into the arrangement view to errr... arrange the tune ...

I'm sure there are more of you guys/gals out there.

I like abletons own 4 band eq. I use the hell out of that thing to sculpt my sounds. one of the very few native eqs that is very good. Sadily I cant say the same for some of their others.

As for compressors, I use the multicompressors in logic.

Interesting. I'm totally opposite, things get named the second I start using them.

once the track is fairly stable, then I start naming things 8)

The majority of my tunes are done in midi and then bounced down. I have to go through and name every clip though (for easy management )

Actually you can control more than one instrument at once. Just assign two VSTI to 2 differents tracks. Arm both tracks and there you go. If you want to transpose or have a split keyboard use Live's built in MIDI device Pitch and select your range. I have done monster stacks and splits using this ...
