I'm using for these purposes freeware tool MIDI Monitor. It does exactly what you are looking for.

I like the search feature almost everywhere. Mainly in the Start menu and in Control Panels (who's able to remember which icon from the millions is doing what I need actually).

1: A Mac "Just works" meaning everything works, any new app you install works right away, and they never, ever, crash. Macs can crash. Its not so easy to force them down, but its possible. 2: Macs don't get viruses, and it is impossible for a hacker to gain unauthorized access to a system...
