Re: Best microphone to record my own voice for samples?
I sometimes use the built in mic from my mbp when it's just a hit or short sample. No need for super expensive mics unless you're doing some serious singing or voice work imo.

Re: Izotope StutterEdit: How do you make use of it?
I love how people try and "warn" you about something that doesn't matter. Avoiding plugins doesn't validate someone as an artist. There are plenty of major label producers that don't give a shit what others think and use plug ins (millions of them) all of the time and they're doing just fi...

Place it on your master out or on a bus mix.
Control it from an armed midi channel
Customize each preset or roll your own and save
Control live using midi controller or keyboard.
wash. rinse. (beat)repeat.

Re: Great, basic & inexpensive soundcard for Live performance?
I had an Ultralite and went with a NI Audio 4 DJ for awhile. The NI card is really close to the MOTU, for live use I'd have no hesitations at all in recommending it. I plan on picking up one of the new Audio 6 DJ's myself for playing out, don't want to bring the RME Fireface400 with me all the time...

Re: editing the autoassign of efx/plugins ( takeover mode )
Why not make an instrument rack as the first item in your chain, and map the 8 macro knobs to the parameters you want to control. That way, when you select a track, the blue hand is automatically on the instrument or effect rack and you can just start turning knobs and control only the parameters yo...

Re: Ok To Play
Just some small joint downtown called Downtown Lounge. Should be the perfect spot for my first live performance and a good opportunity to actually practice in front of people before this thing officially goes out on the road.

Re: Great, basic & inexpensive soundcard for Live performance?
I would also suggest the NI stuff.
I have the Audio 4 DJ for Traktor and I would imagine that it's a very workable solution for live performance being that it's bus powered/USB.

Re: Ok To Play
I always appreciate your insights, Tarekith. I must say that after over a decade of DJing and producing, I've FINALLY put together my very first live set (which will debut this Friday night in Chicago) and I have never felt more liberated in the studio. Over the past few years I've stopped writing f...

Re: Korg nanoKontrol Myr - A midi remote script for Live 8
Looks like this thread died, but I'm bringing ti back :) This has been working incredibly well. However, after spending hours trying to muscle through the py scripts, I'm unable to do something which I'm sure some of you more adept coders can handle. I've already changed the default action for encod...

Re: Korg nanoKontrol Myr - A midi remote script for Live 8
to be honest i never use panning live either, usually have the encoders mapped to some eq's and tempo for dj'ing. i can see that sends would be a lot more useful to most people so I've been thinking it through. the best solution i can think of so far would be to have the top row of buttons act as t...

Re: Advice on sending demo's?.....
More great advice Brian!! Can i also ask, if I get interest from a label should i ensure all this is agreed prior to anything being made official to avoid problems down the line? Would you say it is normal practice for you to run through all this with new artists from the start and is this they mos...

Re: Advice on sending demo's?.....
You'll also want to ask if they will be mastering your music, and who will be doing the mastering. it's totally ok if they're not, but make sure you're both on the same page, and that you're ok with that. I've heard stories of labels who say they've had an artist's tracks mastered, but never were ab...
