I'd love this too... I have to move all effects to a new audio track, route the output of the channel with the VST to the new audio track and then I can freeze. Boring though :/ I would love to have such "weak freeze" too!

couldn't it be done via sidechain compression, activating the sidechain eq of the compressor?...

for djing, as long as you don't push the tempo too far from the original, you could also try the beat mode..
