I use sf6 too. Better than 5, and I haven't bothered with 7 or 8.

I have one PC laptop - it's a Toshiba, and is excellent.

A 5400rpm drive should be sufficient. Personally, I love Samsung notebook disks.

I'm not big on filters. I just use EQThree, and occasionally run some automated shifts in cutoff frequencies.

To be honest, I mostly use samples, a la Matthew Herbert.
