Re: If I upgade to live 8 suite....

Bear in mind that you don't actually need to upgrade from Suite to a new version of Suite unless there is some new instrument or something that you want. All the instruments you get with Suite 8 would be upgraded to their latest versions even if you only updated to plain Live 9. For example, the onl...

Re: Have you done your 10,000 hours?

I think this 10,000 hour rule has a grain of truth to it, but its not even vaguely the whole story - especially when applied to creative pursuits. 10,000 hours working on music will make you a more accomplished producer or composer, but it's not necessarily going to give you new ideas or inspiration...

Re: Basic Composition Book Recommends?

Well, its pretty recent. 2004 for the edition I have. I wasn't complaining about the info that is inaccurate due to age anyway, its more basic than that.

Glad you got something out of the book anyway. Different strokes for different folks I guess vOv

Re: Basic Composition Book Recommends?

Maybe he was just trying to fill up space? I dunno. There's some other classic stuff from a few pages above where he says "nearly all house producers will not use software sequencers". I guess the guy just likes his exaggerated generalizations. Anyway, so that I have a positive contributio...

Re: Basic Composition Book Recommends?

I'm surprised to see so many recommendations for the Dance Music Manual. I picked it up a while ago, and was really disappointed. It's riddled with errors, both on technical topics and in the descriptions of genres. I ended up thinking that the author didn't really know the subject that well. It was...

I use nested Drum Racks quite a bit. Stick a Random plug + a Drum Rack on one of the pads of your master Drum Rack, and then fill the nested drum rack up with variatons of a single sample. Thats a really easy way to bring a bit of variation and life into a kit.

Seems a tad silly to recommend Timeless over Ricochet to me. I love Timeless, but its the pinnacle of single-tap(well, dual) stereo delays rather than a replacement for a multi-tap delay like Ricochet. It's a different effect for a different use.

Find another gig...

I don't know what it's like down in London, but I've never had a problem finding gigs in Manchester or Edinburgh/Glasgow. Surely you must have built up a fair few contacts over the years?

Do you know how to set the "Release" on all of the samples that are dropped on an instrument. My problem is that if the MIDI note is too short the sample will be truncated (Release is 50ms by default). So, I manually went to each sample and pushed the release to the max. Set the release h...

I noticed, in some instances, if the velocity does not overlap in the Instrument settings and the velocity of the note is on a boundry, that a note will not play. Is that correct; or is that a bug? For example.. BD1 .. vel=[120..127] BD2 .. vel=[110..119] If the note is at 119, no sound will trigge...

Just set up your samples in an instrument rack with the velocity switching set up how you want it, then drag the instrument rack onto the drum pad you want to use.

what anybody would want with 256 slices? 128 are more than enough Imagine that you are slicing a vocal melody sample into sixteenth notes. Now, 128 slices is only two bars ! So in fact the present implementation forces you to create a new sampler instrument track for each two bars of vocals to be t...
