Re: Question for British people

I generally get off by ingesting quantities of mildly toxic substances. Another one that I don't get. Why doesn't English have a verb for the cleaning of eating utensils? Why is doing the dishes called washing up? And why up in particular? I mean French has vaisselle which translates as washing up b...

Re: removing user data from iTunes purchases?

they play fine without issue including in DAW and DJ apps. That's not strictly true in my experience. To be 100% certain files play and metadata is processed correctly the user needs Quicktime (iTunes) installed on the machine. That's not going to be an issue for many folks hereabouts because they ...

Re: Richie Hawtin you idiot.

Manual beat matching is a creative time waste, you could spend on much more interesting things as a DJ
More interesting for whom?

Re: Richie Hawtin you idiot.

Techno in the 90s was pretty horrible music .....<snip>......The first acts that were of a higher musical quality only turned that way when the tools got better in the 200 lulwut? That's like saying Paul McCartney did his best work in Wings. Proves you weren't there then mate. Early to mid nineties...

Crowdsourcing: Is it a Scam?

I first heard about Kickstarter when Mrs Ron started sending $5 a month to a bunch of hippies living in a big shed in Canada so they could recycle used potato sacks into men's underpants.Or something. It's just the sort of kind but misguided shit the Mrs specialises in so I wasn't unduly concerned. ...

Re: Where have you traveled in the world?

I did the overland to India thing when I was a teenager in the mid seventies. Afghanistan was a real thrill. Like walking out onto the set of Game of Thrones. The Vaucluse in the South of France is my current favourite place. The smell of the garrique, the food, the wine, the sun, the sounds, the ea...

Re: that philosophical thread

There is, in a very real sense, an enormous moral chasm between humans and viruses.

We are the only creatures with consciousnesses. Homo Sapians Sapians.

Humans know what they are doing but don't give a fuck. Viruses are just doing what viruses gotta do.

Re: PONO

Let's assume for a moment that the average punter can distinguish a tune recorded at 24/192 from one recorded at 16/44.1. Just for the sake of arguement. What the early adopters pledging $400 for the LE editions seem to really, really want are 'hi-rez' versions of 40 years old albums. Which were rec...

The real trick is going to be persuading punters to pony up 24.99 for what they have got used to getting for 6.99.

Re: should i opt for passive or active monitors?

Mate. Where have you been? It's not possible to buy new passive monitors any more. No one makes them. Look on Thomann. 324 active monitors for sale. 11 passives and most of them are JBL Controls, Avoncube Mixdudes and other stuff they haven't been able to get rid of at any price for years. The only ...
