Re: whats the best sample editor to get?

Just gave Wavosaur a crack - recommended by Chis early on in this thread. Pretty good sample editor. Allows you to get right down to work and it doesn't cost anything. If you need something pretty, look elsewhere. If you are looking for functionality, give it a shot.

Re: Who has dared to follow their Ableton passion?

It's mostly all been said. Your 42. The world will look VERY different to you 5 years from now and even WAY more different 10 years from now. I am in my 50s so I have gone down this path and so have billions of others. The aging thing and your perspective on it is remarkably similar no matter the li...

Re: Reason?

Live and Reason are different beasts. I use and love both. If you are making music and will be in Reason you should upgrade. There are enough productivity enhancements and unique effects processors and KONG drum sampler, to name a few to make an upgrade worthwhile. They also rolled in Record, a soph...

Re: FM8 Tutorials

Steve,

Thanks. Had a quick look. Very nice. I will definitely be digging in once my workload eases by week's end. Thanks for sharing the wealth. Really looking forward to this.

Re: transferring NATIVE INSTRUMENTS to a new rig

Obviously deauthorizing the original install is best. If you have Komplete, last I checked you get 3 authorizations on active machines. A few years ago I had a tech support at NI clear my authorizations. Not sure what the current status is but in my dealings with NI tech support they have been empat...

Re: Recommendation for a decent piano sample set/plugin?

Native Instruments Concert Grand which uses the Kontakt engine. Will run out of Live or any other DAW. I have tried the Reason Pianos which obviously run out of Reason. They are OK. The multi micing technique is more of a gimmick. Although there are a few well done "Producer Patches" done up. I have...

Re: Upgrade Path for Max for LIve for Suite 8 owners

If you run Ableton Live on a desktop and a laptop, can you install and use Max for Live on both machines with the caveat that only one machine is running the app(s) at one time, much like you can with Live?

Re: Upgrade Path for Max for LIve for Suite 8 owners

Pretty sure the codes are persoanalized. The deal is on till the end of April. I would give it a few days and then make an inquiry. Not greed on my part. Just paid off my VISA card for a full license for MaxMSP. I purchase all my music software and do update purchases regularly so my software budget...

Re: Upgrade Path for Max for LIve for Suite 8 owners

Just received a Max For Live 30% discount during April email. The discount code is including in the email and is also good for Max/MSP owners who want to do the crossgrade. Thank you Ableton.

Re: Upgrade Path for Max for LIve for Suite 8 owners

Correct me if I am wrong but hasn't Ableton just announced a deal where people upgrading to Suite get Max for Live thrown in for free. The context of my beef comes from upgrading to Live 8 and then Suite only to discover that Live was all but unusable in it's present form due to bugs. Fast forward a...

Re: Upgrade Path for Max for LIve for Suite 8 owners

You guys think you're chuffed! I've upgraded Abelton Live to Suite and I own Max/MSP. New upgraders to Ableton Suite get Max for Live for free and I have to pay for Max for Live sitting on a copy of Suite AND a recenntly purchased box of Max/MSP for 600 bucks. Bollocks.

Re: Field recorder

Of the Zoom units mentioned in the linked thread, the H4N is the unit to get now although it is above your price range a bit. The big hit of the past six months has been Tascam's new inexpensive entrant, the DR-03. It is a bit difficult to find but a quick google search should bring up a place nearb...
