MIDI Effects- Note Length

Just making sure I didn't 'lose' any presets bundled with Live... MIDI Note Length has no presets, correct (it seems to be the only effect that doesn't have any presets)?

Re: 10 New Ableton Live Skins

You're in a fortunate position actually. I don't think releasing the editor is illegal. Making use of the editor, as an end user though, might be illegal. Kinda like "here's the software, and I have no control over what you do with it." Much like a bit torrent client, which isn't illegal, but often ...

Re: Question on live's GUI engine.

I'd suspect that the GUI is running in its own thread, so the audio engine takes priority. This doesn't excuse the behaviour, but at the very least the audio doesn't get interrupted. I'm sure it's all C++, and the UI is just a pixel map. But perhaps it is so customized, as to just have one code-base ...

Re: Apple Deja vu

I guess I'm confused as to why so many people are basing their purchase on one piece of software. You guys must use your computer for something other than Live. What if Ableton does have an Intel-Mac version ready within the next week? You'll still have a computer that is incompatible with 99% of ...

I realize you're not going to disclose how Live works on a public forum. It is surprising to hear that it's almost all completely sample-based though. I guess I look at programs like SuperCollider, that have 'automation' and sample accuracy that can't be beat, and make use of altivec code. Granted ...

The whole engine is sample-based? How? What about the Ableton Plug-Ins? Surely there is vector-based mathematics in those? And what about Operator? Is that sample-based (I'll be kinda bummed if you say yes)? Man, I'd be willing to help you guys Altivec (and SSE) your code, for free. Thanks for the ...

Well, they're definitely here in Maryland. Actually, the Apple Store I went to replaced _all_ the G5 iMacs with Intel iMacs. Even the store models that were advertised as being G5 iMacs were really Intel machines (after using the Finder-> About This Mac). You can walk into an Apple store and pick up ...

I just tested an Intel iMac as well. I can also report CPU spikes around 116% with audio drop outs while trying the Demo Set in Live. Rosetta just kinda, well, blows. Since there is no altivec code to translate, it's pure math in C/C++. So I'm just going to get a refurbished G5 iMac which is the ...

I'll be there. Wish I had enough time to prepare material to actually play. Next time I hope. I could probably hunt down a place in Baltimore that would host a free place to play...

VST2AU is just wrapping the interface. The difference between a VST and an AudioUnit is the interface with the host (from what I know). VST2AU is probably running the VST as usual, and piping it through an AudioUnit interface. Notice that VST2AU creates virtual AudioUnits. It doesn't do a strict ...

I don't think that would even work. A plug-in needs a host. The host and the plug-in need to be compiled for the same architecture. If you think of an O.S. as being a 'host' for applications, you'll see how this makes sense.

Most plug-ins will just need a recompile. If they make use of altivec code ...

Yes, they will need to be recompiled for the Intel Macintoshes.

Testing Live on new Intel Mac

I live pretty close to an Apple Store, and I've downloaded the demo version of Ableton Live to try out on a machine in the store before (when I was looking at the 1.67 GHz PowerBooks). I figure I'll drop by the store this weekend, download Live onto an Intel iMac, and see what happens (i.e. if Live ...

Two points:

The PowerBooks aren't gone. They're still there. Meaning the MacBook is their new 'mid-level' laptop. I bet mid-year there will be new iBooks, and new PowerBooks. The MacBook was probably necessary for the 'intermediate' user, and it also avoids the problem of killing off either the ...
