Re: Need advice re: replacing or fixing my computer (2011 MBPro)

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I decided to just use my work laptop for now - a 2015 Dell XPS 13, 2.2GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM ultrabook which has thunderbolt, Windows 10 and supports dual monitors . Selling the MBPro (and my also broke Air) for parts. I'm also now selling my RME Fireface 400 and...

Re: Need advice re: replacing or fixing my computer (2011 MBPro)

nope, the Core 2 Duo is not a good buy. too old, too slow. Agreed. I just found a 13" Mid 2012 MBPro, 2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5 for $400 on CL. The HD and RAM don't matter cuz I'm gonna swap them out for my own. Does that sound like a decent deal? It has firewire too which is a plus. No video card...

Re: Need advice re: replacing or fixing my computer (2011 MBPro)

Oh another option (I edited the original post): I'm currently borrowing a buddy's 2009 17" MBPro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. He's considered selling it which would probably be on the cheap side. Think that's fast enough to run Abes 10 well? I just need to double the RAM up and thrown in new, big...

Re: Need advice re: replacing or fixing my computer (2011 MBPro)

3. Just use my work laptop (which I own) - a 2015 Dell XPS 13, 2.2GHz Intel Core i5, 8GB RAM (can I move my mac RAM to my PC?). It's probably a little slower than the 2011 MBPro. ISSUE: No firewire port but I assume there's adaptors out there work well? Unless it has Thunderbolt, no. Looks like it ...

Re: Need advice re: replacing or fixing my computer (2011 MBPro)

Performance-wise 2013 to 2015 aren't much different to each other, but have set RAM and SSD sizes. Watch out for that. I wouldn't go under 16GB/1TB myself there. In theory the SSD could be replaced, but it's some work to take on. Woah, what?! Not sure if I understand. Are you saying I can't modify ...

Need advice re: replacing or fixing my computer (2011 MBPro)

So my 2011 MBPro shit the bed and requires a new motherboard. Minimum $400 aftermarket and still a risk of that year's endemic video card failings (which killed mine). So I'm wondering what to do and where to research online (e.g. ableton forum? /r/PCMasterRace? etc.). For the record, I'm trying to ...

Re: On second thought, I'm excited for Live 9.

I haven't posted on here in maybe... several years, but apparently all the fanboy love turned to hate in the interim? It's nice to see Tarekith is still here, however. Maybe a lot of people on here don't produce or perform original music using traditional instruments. Or maybe I'm lazy or ignorant a...

Is it my computer or Live 8?

Been a while since I posted... Basically, I have a MBPro that's probably 3+ yrs. old - 2.33 ghz intel core duo w/ 4 GB RAM running the most updated OSX 10.6. Ableton 8 is updated. I'm also currently playing/recording with very knowledgeable certified ableton instructor who has the same computer, sam...

Re: Live Users in Illinois?

There's a Chicago Ableton User Group that's pretty active. You can find it on here or via facebook. I know LOTS of ableton users in this city.

Re: You know what sucks about the iPad (besides the name)?

if you want to have it out of the way, do it like pitch black. prepare a "no look-at-screen" live set with your apc and put the computer on the floor, backstage, whereever... 303 +1 pitch black have a great setup in that respect. I'm hard at work at the drawing board right now, but that d...

Re: OT: Prefuse 73 Live

I've seen Prefuse twice now but both times have been outside. Both times were muddy and shitty sounding. Love his albums; hate his live shows. Maybe an indoor show would be better?

Are there any advantages to the new file format? I'm just wondering why it was changed. Excuse me if I missed comments related to this.

Re: Killer iPad app

Someone could also just create a custom interface which send commands over regular wifi or bluetooth. That way there could be a custom built interface, which wouldn't just mirror the standard Live GUI (assuming you dont' want all that).
