Re: Something to make all of you sound designers think

This how i'd do it:

I'd just go to a club and record it with a hand-held recorder. Having a DJ mate would help. It'll sound way more realistic and there would be a greater contrast when you switch to the full-range sound.

How to change the tempo in the middle of a song?

Say i have a track that's at 120BPM, but after one minute i have a breakdown, and i wanted to slow the tempo slightly to increase the tension..... .....how do i achieve this? I imagine there's several ways to do this in Ableton, but what's the simplest, most painless? Is there some kind of tempo tra...

Re: Triggering clips as if they're samples?

Or to put it another way:

How do i make a drum kit with totally different FX on each drum sound, and then play these back together simultaneously on my midi drum pads? It seems like this isn't possible, right?

Triggering clips as if they're samples?

Is there a way to trigger clips as if they were samples? This would be great as you'd then be able to have different FX on snare, kick, hi-hat (for example), but still edit them on the same midi track and apply FX to them globally. I've tried dragging a clip from an audiotrack into impulse, which wo...

Re: Please explain clips to a Neanderthall!

Me again,

Can i, for example, merge several midi objects (from different tracks playing different instruments) into one clip, and then apply an affect like a filter sweep over that whole clip?

Now that would be useful!

Thanks!

Please explain clips to a Neanderthall!

Hi, I've just jumped out of my time machine, having travelled from 40,000 years ago when Logic and Cubase were the only game in town! I'm trying to get my head around clips. I'm only doing pure production, no performance, so i don't really see the point of clips. Why can't i just work in the Arrange...

Total newbie question about monitoring midi on tracks

Hi, I'm new to Ableton. I haven't used a sequencer for years, the last time was logic around 10 years ago! I can't get my head around how Ableton handles monitoring on a midi track. Once i've recording something on a (midi) track, i'm no longer able to hear what i recorded AND play in new notes at t...

Total noob question regarding Mac / Audio units

I've only been using a mac for couple of days, so please excuse this total noob question. I've been trying to install an Audio Units plugin, but it's not showing up in Ableton. I saw in another thread someone advising to install in : Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/Components Ok, but when i look in finder, i...

Chop up a beat into hits and automatically map to sampler?

I guess the title says it all! I'm a new user (2 days) so please be gentle with me! I recently saw a new feature in Logic that will take a few bars of music and put markers on the transient points - after that it will automatically export those samples to a sampler, mapped across the keyboard. Does ...
