Re: Low gain on Firebox pre-amp

For electric, I have a Tokai (Les Paul) and plug it in straight to the Firebox. I get great results that way.

Re: Low gain on Firebox pre-amp

Hmmm...Acoustic guitar? I'm placing the mic super close, any closer and it's IN the whole. Clearly not the right way to mic an acoustic but it's the only way I'll hear anything. Also I have to hit the strings super hard and try not to hit the mic at the same time. I'll try boosting +12 dB. Thank you...

Low gain on Firebox pre-amp

I've noticed this when trying to mic my guitar - Ableton barely catches anything.

Do I just have to stay away from SM57 and get a less hungry mic (what do you recommend?), or am I missing something? I'd like to record audio at 'normal' levels and not have to artificially boost it once it's in Live.

Looking for lessons in Toronto

Hey hey, I'm trying to learn Live, but I feel like I would make so much more progress if I could work with someone who knows their shit one on one. I know my way around Live a bit, so I'm looking for more production lessons - a couple of sessions on use of effects, sound design (I still can't dial i...

Re: The secret to making PHAT beats in Drum Racks

Thanks man! And just a general thank you for everything else on your site. I loved the remix tutorial. This is exactly what I've wanted - to sit in and watch someone dissect a song. Your videos are very well organized and easy to understand. Props

Re: crossfader problem

Need to solve this problem with my PCR-300 as well. I'm sure it's not a controller specific problem but just a matter of setting it up.

Re: The secret to making PHAT beats in Drum Racks

Hey, Thanks for the tutorials. I followed them last night to create a 'phat' beat. Still struggling with drums so it's good to have such a thorough walk through of every element from choosing samples to applying effects. Looks like you're using tons of 3rd party effects. Is there an equivalent of a ...

Re: Basic Music Theory

I did say it's a start. For someone who knows nothing about music, a 45 page pdf outlining basic concepts is exactly what you need.

If you have better websites in mind please just post them.

I am completely ripping this off from another thread so don't give me credit for this link. But this is a good start for sure

Re: Jamming template ideas

Thanks flippo. I'm not too familiar with corpus so this might be a good opportunity to start learning it. Thanks for the PK specific tip, I've been thinking of how to utilize the knobs/xy pad and I think I will go with your suggestion if I am able to set it up. I've had trouble assigning parameters ...

Re: Jamming template ideas

I do tons of this. Something to keep in mind when jamming, when people have TOO much access to tons of sounds, it really starts to get messy...especially if someone doesnt know what they are doing. I do tons of improv and have spents 10s of hours (more even) just preparing templates for all my stuf...

Jamming template ideas

Planning a little jam with a couple of friends Ableton Live style. I would really like for it to go as smoothly as possible so we don’t spend hours fiddling with settings and mappings and concentrate on just jamming out. I have a few days to create a template and I want to incorporate a PadKontrol, ...

Re: notes to match chords..

Start learning chords, progressions, scales, modes, etc. Just music theory in general. There is no set formula but some theory will help. For now, something like this can help:
