Re: Recommended effects for direct guitar input

I imagine the onboard EQ, compressor, overdrive and delay would be enough to make your tone a little nicer than direct-in'ing it. Also, (and this is sort of a different way of doing it from what you're probably looking for), using pedals before the actual signal goes into Ableton would be a possibil...

Re: Mousless control of dropping samples into drum rack

Similarly, I am interested in being able to drag and drop a recording from Looper into a given slot on a track (so I could record a looping guitar part, and then play on top of it, etc.)

Any info would be very appreciated. :D

Delete list of recently opened sets?

Anybody know of a way to clear out the list of recently opened sets from the File menu in Live (short of opening 20 dummy sets)? On my desktop PC I have a few sets that I had saved to my laptop, only I have now replaced the HD on said laptop and the shortcuts no longer exist. This means a 30-second ...

Re: Live install takes an INSANE FUCKING amount of time!!!

Trolls suck.

That said, I hate how long it takes the Live install to unpack the libraries. I have the luxury of being able to leave them unattended for the most part though.

Re: APC40 Note Mode

And just to be clear, I think it would be awesome if they did that, so I'm not saying it's a bad idea. But I don't see it as a shortcoming or oversight on Ableton's part that they don't.

Re: APC40 Note Mode

These should be supplied as part of the product.
Not to be a dick, but... why?

Between Max for Live and the myriad other user-produced ways of implementing the functionality, why should they be doing that in light of all the other stuff they allow users to do?

Re: PC users - What mixer/sound card works?

OP, are you running the driver in ASIO mode? I get unacceptable latency with mine (not sure of specific numbers, but it makes playing in time virtually impossible) when it's not running ASIO, but have no noticeable issues when I've got it in ASIO (just the mode it came with - not even ASIO4ALL).

Also, at least 4GB RAM is a safe bet, and a 7200rpm drive is going to improve loading speeds significantly over a 5400rpm.

Re: Advice on APC20 / Launchpad as standalone & combo with APC40

Mac fans are going to say a MacBook Pro is what you want. PC folks have more variety - Toshibas are good, Dells are pretty unreliable, HPs are decent. Just about anything you buy from a major manufacturer is going to be full of useless bloatware that's just going to bog down your system though, so i...

Re: My midi controller plays all notes a half step down.

On the Axiom49, hold the octave-up and octave-down buttons at the same time to change the transpose. I imagine the 25 would be similar. Set it back to zero and you should be good to go.

Re: To Gerhard Behles, Dennis DeSantis, and company.....

Big ups to the Ableton folks for A) putting out a fantastic piece of software and B) weathering the (sometimes good-natured...) whining from their enthusiastic fanbase. :D I think all the bitching about the quirks in the new versions is actually a testament to what an amazing piece of software Live ...

Re: Rescan MIDI devices with Live running?

That's for my plugins, I thought? I'm talking about for actual MIDI hardware devices. Does it work for that too? If I plug in a USB controller with Live running, I have to exit and entirely reload Live to make it see it again. I'm curious if there's a quick way to make it see the re-plugged hardware...

Re: APC 40 - Is it enough to start?

For just starting out, the APC40 would be plenty, I'd think. Being premapped lets you dive right into using it rather than having to futz around with figuring out what mappings work best for your controller, etc. If you were using it entirely within Live, a separate mixer would probably be overkill....

Re: General PC Advice - Drive Partitions

http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ PC Decrapifier is a good tool to remove the majority of the bloat that tends to come with Dells. If you get a standalone Win7 install disk, go ahead and reinstall from that - but it probably comes with a restore disk (if any separate media at all), it's probably going ...
