i think what snowtires means is that it does indeed take more PHYSICAL (dexterity) talent to play most traditional acoustic instruments. Ok, I kinda thought that this is what it boiled down to. And I think the argument against computers or software as a musical instrument boils down to the same thing - if I can't SEE what the physical change to the "instrument" is, then player isn't a musician. Or it's not an instrument, or whatever...

well assuming all guitars have frets, I suppose you're right... but they dont... the best guitarists use fretless ones, Dave Fiuscinski for example. His style is more like a theremin than a guitar. The discussion isnt around the tuning mechanisms used with each instrument. Thats all that Frets are....
