Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

No, but their ratings and advertising revenue might. Follow the money… Welcome back, stringtrapper. Glad to have in the conversation :) Yeah - you hit the nail on the head. No dispute there. But I return to my question… is it a bad thing that people engage in celebrity worship? That's a great point...

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

People on social networks are just trying to carefully cultivate their own minor celebrity status with their “friends” and will lazily chime in on any low hanging fruit topic of the moment. I welcome people chiming in, so long as it's constructive and civil. Would the world really implode and turn ...

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

I'm listening to some music on soundcloud now... some mixes from a club in NYC called the "Good Room". They also have a section of the venue called the "Bad Room" (clever, right?) In any case, there are some nice mixes on there... many podcasts from so many great DJs, with page upon page of tracklis...

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

Stringtapper, "Railing" and "proselytizing" is inflammatory language, and describing this conversation as "first world problems" is demeaning. This is bullying behavior, and I won't engage it. If you persist in aggressive posturing, or if you do anything interruptive, then I will report you to the f...

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

I’d argue that sometimes an artist’s music resonates with you more than your dealings with people you know personally. Hi beats me, Yes... I resonate with you completely about resonating with another person's art :) I feel that way a lot too. Often times I prefer to read something, over the opportu...

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

Whether you liked their music or not, your existence would be quite different without them. Oh, Sorry, Sporkles... somehow I missed your response. I agree with you in some regard. My life would be slightly different... especially in the case of Michael Jackson... I did listen to some of his work, a...

Or at least, they have convinced themselves they mean it :)

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

you form a relationship with the artist that you may feel close to because they seem to understand your _______. <--- inset feelings word here. As an adult, I can't develop feelings that strong for any person that I can't actually speak with. When I was a teenager I had a crush on a girl in my scho...

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

When a family member dies, you and your brother might reflect on that person a few days. When a celebrity dies, your 'circle' of grieves is much larger, but the details of the deceased person's life are from their art, or from the stories and videos. There are important differences between the two ...

Yes, I suppose on the spectrum of virtue and vice he showed some benevolence... but again... I feel weird about those grey areas... I prefer to keep it simple... try not to take much more than you need... don't take from people that have less than you... that sort of thing. Doing something good, isn...

Re: Using Ableton Vocoder for Bass Sounds

I kinda like that middle sound (maybe triggered samples of dogs growling?) by themselves.

I'm not into dubstep, but you definitely have some nice production chops! Cheers.

So is that what happened - a change in the oscillator's parameters, or did you group it?

Re: Anti-Celebrity. Anti-Fame.

Totally, H20... you brought up him giving away his music... I have trouble admiring rich people who give things away... I feel very strange judging someone as generous when they wear a piece of jewelry that could have paid for an Associates degree, or fed a remote village in a poor country for a yea...
