Re: 1 GB RAM (2 GB recommended)

Accusations of paedophelia aside, I would personally not recommend running Live 8 on less than 2GB of RAM, especially if you want to run any sample libraries, like Kontakt, EIC2, etc. I have 2GB on my Macbook Pro but only 1GB on my PC - I loathe running Live on the PC at the moment due to constant H...

Re: Is anyone else MASSIVELY excited to see Avatar?

People seem to have utterly fallen in love with the CGI/visuals, and I totally get that. But I just get really bored with CGI effects. Maybe bored isn't the right word. More like 'numb'. At the end of the day it's just the whole story that really turned me off. +1. Avatar gets worse the more I thin...

Re: DJ Shadow: a few words on music, the biz, etc...

However after the Outsider came out there seemed to be a shift, and at no time was I more aware of it than at a show for his "Outsider" tour here in Toronto where he lambasted the crowd for standing still and not moving around, and he even sort of imitated the crowd by folding his arms. Personally ...

Re: DJ Shadow: a few words on music, the biz, etc...

only thing that irks me is the "we are all outsiders, so let's join together" part at the end. whats the point of being an outsider then? The point is not to be an outsider, per se. The point is that what's going on on "the inside" is bollocks. Also, he probably had a contractual obligation ...

Re: We need a place for newbies.

The manual is a good description of the various features in Live but it is FAR from a how to get started outline, let alone a description of the mentality behind Live. I agree. It's an excellent reference manual when you need to check something specific, but it's useless as far as acting as a tutor...

Re: New iMac, Nvidia or ATI gfxcard? Advice needed.

You'll be laughing with either option. I run Live (usually with various Komplete plugs) on a 2008 Macbook Pro with only 2GB memory and it's fine - I do have a dedicated nVidia card, but I'm usually just running it with onboard graphics anyway (to save battery life). The lowest spec new iMac will sti...

Hi graywoulf, Whether or not you get your request for a noob forum granted (which I doubt), you'll find many people more than willing to answer specific questions for you if you just post them in the General forum here. Don't be put off by all the off-topic stuff and the flamers - there's still more...

Re: Portishead for Christmas

Oh, don't get me wrong - I think the first 2 studio albums are way superior. Third is okay. I feel like many of the reviewers had made their mind up that it was amazing before they'd even heard it. also, who the fu** thought it was okay to end the first track on 'third' that way? Every time I hear i...

Re: Portishead for Christmas

Third was a grower for me. I don't think it's as gob-smackingly amazing as many reviewers did, but to me it gets better with repeated-listening. YMMV. I think it needs to be listened to in a single clump though - there aren't too many standout standalone tracks.

Re: 10.6 and 8.1

I had no problems with Live 8.0.x + Komplete 5 on Leopard; similarly, no problems with 8.1 + Komplete 5 on Snow Leopard. I can't actually tell the difference as far as Live goes.

Re: Continuously logged out of forum. Not sure how or why.

Do you have cookies enabled in your web browser? It'd be something along those lines, or perhaps an issue with a proxy server if you're browsing at work, something like that. I'm pretty sure the Abes don't have time to go around logging individual users out for fun! ;)

Re: Notation in Live 9?

Music notation features along the lines of what is available in Logic Pro would be great, and would really suit my own needs. For me, midi editing on a stave is much more intuitive than it is on the current midi editor. Also, it would be nice to be able to print off a bass part (for example) and giv...
