1. Stomp MIDI pedal to start recording
2. Stomp again to quit recording
3. Stomp again to trigger loop

Think I found it -- it seems that Live happily allows me to map a MIDI CC # 104 to a clip's record/play button, no matter what CC value I send. What it won't do is *anything* unless that value happens to be greater than 63.

i think it's possbile to created split zones on the keyboard. look at some of the combinator patches. lots of the performance patches are splitted in bass/lead for example I think northern's suggestion might be the simplest, least trouble-free way to set up a split that loads with your Reason song ...
