Re: Music Theory?

I will tell you the single most important thing Ive ever learned. Which was from my old guitar teacher. Ideas are cheap. Melodies are cheap. Development of an idea is what defines genius. Now this can apply to melodies on their own. (It applies to every part of music) Listen to your favorite song - ...

What are you using to backup your projects/samples/os?

Im after doing a major switchover to windows for audio since my macbook was ruined by a toddler and a coffee. :) Its taken me a couple weeks to organise everything, and its been the biggest pain in the ass. The macbook harddrive was fine, and I have plenty of backups but the amount of things that ne...

Re: Built my first computer... and HOOBOY I GOTS A HUGE PROBLEM!

Are you upstairs above any lighting system? I had a problem with mystery noise for a long while which drove me insane - turned out to be lighting for the kitchen below which was routed under my floor. Weird house wiring can be a big deal for noise. The only other suggestion is isolation. The usb cab...

Re: Pre-Mastering {Do I have to, Ma?? :-) } LoL, Read On

Personally I don't see the point in adding another mixing stage to the process, you have all the flexibility you need right in the original mixdown. Bouncing to stems and redoing it all just sounds like an attempt to prolong decision making as long as possible, there's no technical reason to do it ...

Little Script for Mac to get a psuedo autosave on Live 8/9

This may be useful to somebody! Im still being driven insane with Live crashing while Im sound designing and losing all my vst settings. Which is a really disheartening experience. So I made a very simple applescript (using various sources from the web - people with actual "knowledge" ha.) for osx t...

Re: Making album artwork - your experiences?

I've provided artwork for a couple of online albums. These used my photographs with appropriate typeface. What I suggest you do as a band is brainstorm exactly what it is you want to represent yourselves and the music. Do you want: Something that seems right for this particular body of music you ha...

Re: Making album artwork - your experiences?

Ha, no. Just soundcloud and net stuff. Anyways, we're actually enlisting the help of a graphic designer/multimedia tech for the band logo, possibly post processing and oversight/advice to make sure we dont screw it up too much! I remember a friend who once sent off band artwork for their album for p...

Making album artwork - your experiences?

So, my band have decided to create our own artwork for our upcoming EP. We feel that rather than getting help from an artist outside of the band, we'd keep it 'in house' to make it more personal. So even if its crap, its still ours I guess! Trying to find inspiration - we have some ideas for what we...
