Re: rewire from Abelton Live to reaper

Sorry to take so long. The magic I found was IAC midi driver http://fox-gieg.com/tutorials/2007/inter-application-midi/ SoundFlower virtual audio bus http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/ Here is a sketch of the interconnection between Live and reaper. https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B24NhFo7p...

Re: rewire from Abelton Live to reaper

The singer I am working with came over last nite to record and what with the drama and the hour I didn't get to look at my notes. Sorry I will try again to nite. I am having a problem understanding how you want to compose in Live yet record in Reaper. What I was trying to do was Compose in Live and ...

Re: rewire from Abelton Live to reaper

I'm at work and don't have the details in front of me. Basically I installed a free virtual sound channel on the my MBP Reaper and Live would communicate through this. I have a diagram sitting on my desk in the studio. This wasn't straight forward and I never used it to actually make music. I was tr...

Re: Touchscreen

One thing that a touch screen would help for a DAW would be move mouse/cursor to touched area function. It would be so much faster to look at the screen touch where you want to work and have the cursor position there. I spent so much time sweeping the mouse around just to move it to where I want.

Re: a great warm jazz piano sound?

If you have a few hours, download the PianoTec instrument since you can use it for 20 minutes at a time without licensing it. Basically it is a piano in a box. You can adjust the string length, tuning, various properties of the sound board. Some people don't like the Pianotec instrument sound, howev...

Re: Solfeggio Frequencies – The Perfect Circle of Sound etc.

Interest in the spiritual elements of music and sound have been around for hundreds if not thousands of years. Apparently in one Chinese dynasty the court ordered a standardized tuning. A short and interesting article on the history of tuning in western music is at http://www.schillerinstitute.org/m...

Midi Transpostion for multiple instruments - can it be done?

I am working with a singer who cann't sing in the key I wrote the piece in. My first plan was to group a bunch of the midi tracks and then add the midi transpose effect to the group there by transposing the whole thing. However grouping the midi tracks together creates an audio group not a midi grou...

Re: White Noise with pitch?

One thing to be aware of is flecher munson curves. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fletcher%E2%80%93Munson_curves Basically as the volume of the while noice increase the ear become more aware of the high frequency content. With pitched material there is a subtle timbre change but with white noise the e...

Re: CHORD VOICING

You might try searching on Youtube for arranging for strings. There will be some material there that covers the topic. Just be aware that good string arrangements don't always fit comfortably under the pianists hands so you will need to adapt to fit your own capabilites.

Live mastered wave files from a Mac fail on Windows

Load set "A" into Live and export it. The resulting wave file plays fine on the Mac. Copy it to a USB key and move it to a Windows computer. It will play back fine. Load set "B" into Live and export it. The resulting wave file plays fine on the Mac. Copy it to USB key and move it to a Windows comput...

Live set reincarnation

A few weeks ago I experience a major collapse of a live set I was working on. The failure was gradual and developed over several months since I would work on the song intermittently. The main symptom was playback problems, mostly stopping momentarily but after a few times starting and stopping at th...

Re: Do you guys gig with external hard drives?

I upgraded the internal harddrive in my MBP just before Christmas. It is of the previous generation with ~24 screws and two very, very, very delicate internal cables that must be handled. A friend at work, who is Apple certified for hardware repair, did the deed and it was about 45 - 60 minutes work...

I'm new to this forum but I knew Leedsmen and his worth to the community and am sad to learn of his passing. I wish Martin the highest possible evolution and love and peace for his wife and family.

Re: Suggest some monitors for around $1,000 usd

I like the comment about treating the room. (if you rent this can be a challenge). So I lived with my hi fi speakers until I finished the room treatment. Then I bought Adam A7s. They may not be the most analytical speakers around but they sound lovely and for composing having a lovely sound is impor...
