Re: Priorities - software, monitors, controllers?

Great analysis - Engineering says monitors Joy says controller. I think the music is to be found in the joy. You can aways take a track somewhere else to be mixed. Finding an amazing performance/composition that's the tough part. If a home studio is nothing else, if should be a place where you can c...

Re: Compared to Reaper Live feels SO bloated!

Since I started Live with 8.1, I can't feel nostlagic for the past and yes Live has some annoying behaviors but for composition I love sessions view. When working on a tune, I move between session and arrange view getting the best of both worlds. And I love the goodies in Suite. I also have 2 Reaper...

I have Windows, Mac and Ubuntu at home so I'm not trying engage in a war either. My Macbook pro is the last machine I bought and since then I’ve have done some thinking. Re: Studio Monitors - Indecisive

I've got nothing to add on the monitor choice but I really recommend some acoustical treatment. It will make more of a difference that the monitor choice. I say that based on seeing a George Ausberger (that isn't the right name but it was over 30 years ago) come into a studio and deal with the accou...

Re: Replicating Analog Oscillator Drift & Temperature Change

Memory is a little rustly but back in the 70's when I was using Moog modular, EMS AKS, extensively, the most obvious thing about oscilator was tracking. Tune them together and they will slowly go out of phase. Some of the newer analogue oscilators had a phase lock capablitly but I never played with ...

No output while playi a set - Ableton Support Success Story

I had a set that worked until I upgraded to 8.2. Then when I played the set, all the vu meters would display, the clips would launch properly, nothing would sound or display on the master output. I sent a dump to support. Jörg at Ableton got back to me next day (I'm in Canada, he's in Germany) and s...

Re: pc shut down when I export audio with live 8

I've never hear of this before but there is always a first time....... I'm guessing this is a Windows XP system so here are some things to check; 1. this is a reproduceble event, ie there wasn't a one time power glich that shut down you PC. 2. Check the disk you are mastering too. Is there enough sp...

Re: Vocals in Song Pierce my Ear drums. Please Help

Another possiblity is that when the singer hit the high notes they distorted something- try taking a close look at the waveform to see if it is squared off at the annoying points. For momentary distortions (one or two cycles) you can reduce the volume and it will not be noticed. For longer sections ...

Start of Clip Problem

I read a few post concerning starting clips from follow actions but nothing seems to be exactly this problem. I have 12 bar clip located in a scene 2 with a number of other 12 bar clips. If I start scene 2 all the clips start at the right time. I have a Scene 1 which consists of 4 bar clips. These c...

Re: Bug in Follow Actions

I experience a somewhat similar issue last night. With a midi track and an internal softsynth, launching the clips in session view from a scene; When the first clip ended and launched to the second clip, the second clip started at bar 13 even though the start and end markers and the loop marks where...

Re: Flat freq headphones?

The trick is to find a Dr. who specializes in the problems of artists. I when here http://www.musiciansclinics.com/home.asp and found him most helpful. One of the things I learned is that hearing lose is a function of amplitue and duration. 85db is will have an effect if the duration is long My visi...

Re: Speakers producing high pitch buzz in Ableton Live 8

There are a number of reasons that noise could occur and figure out the source is not always easy. Some of the most common sources are: - groundloops which cause a hum - Radio frequency (RF) signals and you can hear static, beeps and things and sometimes voices - Thermal noise. There is lots of info...

Re: How to recover deleted files?

Live stores things in a projects folder. Inside the project folder is a Samples folder. You may have just deleted a reference to the file. In which case the file could still be in the Samples folder.

Good luck
