Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

That you for a very details answer. It completely makes sense. Looking around for alternatives while considering the fact that Macs don't lose value the same was as all other tech, I keep leaning more towards a high spec 15" rMBP.. But it would kill me to realize that it wasn't powerful enough - th...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

Considering I saved about $1000 by going with ADK over a similarly spec'd MBP I would say I came out ahead on my purchase, but that is what worked for me and my own needs. I'm platform agnostic and think Apple makes great products but their hardware is over priced IMO. You pay their software tax wh...

Re: Looking for a good VST Synth for around $200

Absynth is one of those synths I was interested in due to reputation... every 6 months or so, I open it again and explore a bit and then remember why I never use it. I just don't like the sound of it and the GUI seems really clunky

Re: Serum vs. Zebra - a meaningful comparison?

This. Serum's GUI is very efficient. Zebra's is efficient as well but it's flexibility kind of requires a steeper learning curve. That said, Serum does plenty of things Zebra doesn't do but vice versa. Zebra does proper FM, has more oscillators and is more routable. Serum's wave table engine is mor...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

I have no hope in that regard... cause I really don't care if they did that or not. Apple prioritized thinner, lighter and stronger over user configurability. I'd guess most people agree with that choice. Then why did you just write this: By the time you need a new one, maybe Apple will have a new ...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

Keep in mind also that a lot of 13 and 15 inch options, especially the thin ones, are very powerful 'for their size'. There is a pretty strong trend lately to use the i7's that are of the ultramobile (power-saving) variety instead of what was a standard mobile processor. Manufacturers know that i7 ...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

Well I would still at least want an i7 quad core with 16 gig of RAM and an 500gig SSD. And as it stands Apples MBP is now about a 1000€ more for this package than it was in the times of the 2012 MBP(admittedly refurbished) with self-upgraded RAM and SSD. I would call that difference quite significa...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

That's apples to oranges. A company like IBM has a totally different support and cost structure than even the most professional music producer. Besides I'm sure they lease their laptops anyways. 5% of their Mac users vs 40% of their PC users (using their help desk) is exactly pertinent to the value...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

Nowadays they priced themselves out of the market for any professional, who really calculates the ROI honestly. Especially in times of Spotify and free content for all. So, I'm not saying that you, deva or fishmonkey are not professionals, all I'm saying is you are not honest with yourselves and yo...

wow, that's generous.... Of course batteries almost never fail within the first 3 years ;-) Exactly, so it is not like it is something that needs to be done often. Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

And have you checked the prices on these Thunderbolt sound cards? 8O They are insanely overpriced. Not worth the price differential over the largely (for this purpose) identical Firewire and USB 3 cards. And not too long ago batteries could be swapped out without removing any screws, just an easy s...
