Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

i used to feel the same before i was forced to upgrade to a Retina MBP, but actually i'm happy with my new machine. the NON UPGRADABLE flash drive is super-fast, the screen is great, the two Thunderbolt ports and HDMI port give me more options than my old 2011 MBP. WHICH YOU NEED TO BUY NEW AND EXP...

Re: Best laptop for Music production: very curious - Macbook?

Get the new 15" Macbook Pro with the quad core i7 - with mine, I also got the 1TB SSD It is very fast, good battery life, solid, good feel, fans rarely go on or if they do a bit they are quiet. 2 Thunderbolt ports and 2 USB ports so enough connectivity. With mine, I do a wide range of work... audio,...

Re: Serum vs. Zebra - a meaningful comparison?

OK, so I've been demoing Zebra and Serum a bit again, and now I got the notion that I should try Bazille too. Now this seems like a REALLY interesting synth, but daaaayum, what a CPU hog! I can't even imagine what kind of monster PC one would need to tame this beast. I have a 3.3 GHz Intel Core i7 ...

no....
what don't you like about it?

In quite few respects, it works better in Bitwig than in Live

Re: Looking for a good VST Synth for around $200

Thanks for all of the replies everyone! I should mention that I am more interested in crafting my own sounds instead of using presets to keep my sound unique and separate from other producers. Because of its semi-modular structure, Zebra takes a bit more getting used to that some simpler synths... ...

Re: Chosing a studio controller - DAW functions

OK, I see what you guys are saying. I don’t really perform my music and oddly only really thought about doing that before the APC40 came out and then my focus (reality?) shifted. Whenever I see vids that have the APC40 or Push in them they are either being used for performance/composing or are a pi...

Re: Chosing a studio controller - DAW functions

Considering he's asking specifically about a controller for Live, and these are the Live forums, I think Push is more than appropriate. The APC faders are nice, but lack of browsing, note mode, scales, etc all put it behind Push for me. I like faders for volume control myself, but endless rotaries ...

@pencilrocket yeah, zebra's gui is my only gripe with the synth. it's very old though and they're working on zebra 3 which is also supposed to feature a new (read better) interface.
There may be a new GUI before Zebra 3...

Re: Serum vs. Zebra - a meaningful comparison?

Not thrilled with the sound character of Serum. It is high quality for sure. And fun to experiment with wavetables. Bit heavy on the cpu, but that would not deter me if I loved the sound.

Zebra is amazing. For me, an endless source of beautiful sounds. A complete must have.

Ha! Wait til you start using Bitwig... Live is much more stable for me than Bitwig 1.2 is.

Re: Is Live dead already?

for a few months now I've been asking myself, if Live is dead, or maybe it's going to die soon. I mean after every update there are bigger problems than before (see recent fuck-up with plugins not working anymore etc...). I'm still on 9.1 because I did not want to mess up my system as 9.1 is quite ...

Re: Kontakt vs Sampler

I'd say if you do go for Kontakt, spend the extra hundred bucks for Komplete 10, it's a bit more money, but an insanely better deal. Why do people always say this? Sometimes a person just needs one more tool specifically. Going for Komplete gives you an overwhelming amount of options and filler mat...

Re: Ableton Live has become an unreliable mess.

There is no point in backtracking. If Live 9 works for you, there is no point. For me, the words "current version" about anything are just marketing hype. If I were buying Live the first time today, after reading about the V9 issues here, I'd probably go to ebay and get myself a V8 (Save $400 too.)...

Re: U-he appreciation

I don't think the question is Hive being better -- the issue is it being On Par with sylenth (which you guys seem to think it is) -- and therefore Hive being the option that has 1. 64bit support on Mac and 2. a company that actually updates regularly and communicates constantly with its user base. ...
