Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

How much RAM will you get? I wonder how Nehalem handles 4x2GB in comparison to 6x1GB.

Trichannel access is faster but when does it happen? Will 4x2GB be handled like 2x2dual channel (which would make 6x1GB a better decision) or like 1 trichannel + 1 single channel.. so many questions..

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

So it really comes down to how you use Live. I think for me it's more useful to get the 8 core version since i'm mainly using audio tracks or one synthplugin with only a few native effects after it. And i usually have more than 8 tracks I think. Propably Live 8 will have better use for an 8 core Neh...

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

It cannot be upgraded by Apple because they don't offer that. But if you buy the processors on your own there's no problem with it, you will only lose warranty. I wouldn't upgrade so soon anyway due to the nehalem entry prices.. And replacing 2 CPUs isn't magic.. you could still keep the old ones fo...

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

Of course, but I don't know if Live will benefit from that. I'm leaning towards the 2x2,26 version at the moment.. more ram and the possibility to replace the cpus with 2 faster xeons one day. It's more future proof. Is that the single quad? I don't believe the cpus can be upgraded on any of them a...

Re: Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

http://www.macrumors.com/2009/03/10/nehalem-mac-pros-arrive-unboxing-and-benchmarks/ there's no benchmark for the quad 2.93 yet, my fault. but the article suggests to get a faster quad version if u have more single threaded tasks.. one should think that music apps utilize multiple cores very well.. ...

Does Live take advantage of 8 cores?

I'd like to buy a 2009 Mac Pro and noticed in todays benchmarks that the 8 core 2.26GHz is slower than the 4 core 2,9GHz processor at single-threaded tasks (oh wonder).

So the question is.. should i go with 8 cores?

wow.. the plugin still can only be used on one single track.. sucks There is essentially ONE engine feeding the plugin and that is the ONE single hardware virus unit, so I don't think it's possible to have more than one instance of the plugin itself. But... you do know you CAN still have 16 differe...

Re: SAE vs LARS

not to offend anyone but I only know people studying at SAE who didn't finish school before.. it's more sth like the last hope for the stupids than a degree which will get you a good job.
