Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

However, it also puts more strain on the CPU. However however, for people like me who play live with VSTs it can help to reduce latency a further bit. if this is true, what are the chances that this bit of information could help the folks with PDC issues? is it possible they are using a lower sampl...

Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

thats kind of like the .jpeg thing... where you don't increase a file size without artifacts, but you can decrease it and have a perfect, though smaller, copy. Maybe Ableton can hire the CSI Miami guys to overcome this shortcoming of physics! yeah, then they could hire them to tell us how to make a...

Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

Ive done some research about how they make vinyl. They make the print master disk with a needle. This needle draws the wave from the master file. Resolution and sample rates above 24/44.1might not be such a difference, since the wave is transfered with an "analog" mechanical arm to this needle. And...

Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

On vinyl, or if end product posssibly could be used pitched down by DJs for beatmixing etc, it might be usefull with higher sample rates. Any thoughts about this? I think the question we have to ask is: Where does it matter for the end user. Good point, I hadn't considered it. I could see it possib...

Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

I've always heard it's better to convert from 88.1 or 96 kHz to 48 kHz than it is to convert from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz. In reality, my opinion is that the audible difference is pretty negligible with modern digital recording technology. thats kind of like the .jpeg thing... where you don't increase a...

Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

Looks like your safest bet is to either convert your samples from 44.1 to 88.2 or record at 44.1. This is straight from the Live User's Reference Manual... "For users looking to achieve optimal audio quality in Live, we have provided a list of recommended practices and program settings. +? Decide wh...

Re: getting 120 gb ssd, how to distribute

Not saying this is the right way, but this is how I set mine up with similar hardware... SSD - OS, Live, Live Library, sample collections, recording buffer HDD - Live projects It seems to be working ok. Definitely faster than when I only had a single HDD. I'm not really sure if having the samples an...

Re: saving instruments - strange locations

Sorry, no help, but I have the same issue. Working with any drum/instrument rack preset I've created and saved into a "my presets" project in the "my locations" part of the browser, it will always save it back into the standard Library location instead when I make changes and hit save. (Live 8.3)

Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

Theoretically, a 44.1 kHz sample rate should give you frequency response up to 22 kHz which more than covers the audible range for humans and should be suitable for any source material, including vocals. I think the bigger issue is definitely sample rate conversion. If there is a chance the audio wo...

Re: 44.1kHz vs. 88.2kHz

I'm sure there will be some disagreement on this topic. I've never been able to hear a difference between 44.1 kHz and 88.2 kHz recordings (my gear or my ears? both? neither?). The more audible difference to me is going from 16-bit to 24-bit, especially if there's a lot of dynamic range in the recor...

Re: 808/ 909/ 303 sounds

I'm still gutted I never bought one because I had a little Roland drum machine around 1981, and the 303 came out and it was very affordable, and I was thinking of getting one, but I don't think I actually got round to it. Ugh, I hate those "should have bought it" feelings for certain pieces of gear...

Re: Expression Pedal doesn't seem to be linear

I think it's a 50k linear taper pot in the FC7, which should work fine with most MIDI controllers. There is no real standard value for the pot resistance, but 10k linear seems to be more widespread. Linear taper is generally preferred over audio taper for MIDI expression pedals. The FC7 may have the...

Re: Operating System Denied Access to Authorization

I know you mentioned that you tried to run as administrator and it didn't work. Are you running it from an admin or standard user account? In a past Windows 7 installation I tried keeping my admin and standard user account separate. It simply resulted in too many headaches from software requiring au...

Re: Live on a home server

Not sure how two people could be using the server/DAW at the same time hard wired from two KVM setups. Also, I think Live allows for installation on two computer. It'd probably be best to just install it on two computers. Use the more powerful computer/audio interface to run instruments and the othe...
