seventh circle pres are the best deal for the money BY FAR right now. the build quality is fantastic, and the sounds you will get out of them will knock you on your ass. i actually prefer the seventh circle pres to a 1073 and wouldn't miss a beat taking them over API, too. can't say enough good thin...

Echo Audiofire 12 -- it is perfect for wanting great conversion and bringing your own pres to the table. the conversion is dead on with RME, but you will save a bunch of money and be able to put a lot more into some great pres. I'd go with Seventh Circle for pres, btw -- they will change your life.

because, to my ears, the audiofire stuff has better conversion. the ultralite is a bit better than the firebox (not by much, though...and certainly not $200 better than the firebox), but not on the rme/audiofire level. i don't like the pres on ANY of this stuff, so for my money i would just get the ...

I would avoid HP at all costs. I'm not anti-windows or anything, but HP is notorious for cutting corners in their laptops to keep costs down. I've heard so many horror stories about them I've lost count.

i would seriously hold off on buying this if you don't even know if it's 400 or 800 -- do more research, dude. seriously -- before dropping $500+ on a piece of gear you should have a solid idea of what you're getting yourself into. personally, i think the ultralite is not worth the cash and i'd take...

i'd kinda like to hear an mp3 sample of what the pack can do. i know it's cheap to begin with, but i like to hear what can be done before diving in, ya know?

the RME conversion is fantastic - but the pres are really weak. i prefer the echo audiofire 12 because it's about half the price, pretty much equal conversion, and leaves the pres out of it, but besides wordclock, the audiofire 12 wouldnt have the digital i/o that you need. the difference between rm...

For this price range, the Tascam VL-X5 pretty much destroy everything else. They have been a/b-ed against things like the KRKs and have them for breakfast every time. There is a great review of them at Front End Audio (they sell the KRKs, too) that got me to try the VL-X5s, and I must say that I am ...
