Re: Compression

I generally compress drums and other percussive sounds with a slow attack (10-20 ms), and I compress pads with a fast attack (0.01 to 1.0 ms). This is very general. I recommend adjusting the attack and release on the compressor to suit each sound.

Re: FM8 experts? Adding Vibrato?

I have always wondered the same thing, but I have never found a vibrato knob in FM8. I work around that by routing an LFO to the fundamental operator. It works for subtle vibrato effects, but it tends to warp the sound at higher LFO values. This actually sounds interesting sometimes. Give it a shot....

Re: mono synth and two midi notes for bending: rules?

If the synth has pitch bend modulation, you could draw an envelope in the clip.

Re: opening songs freezes after win7 32 bit to 64 bit

I don't think 32 bit Live works on 64 bit windows. You either need the 64 bit version of Live, or the 32 bit version of Win7.

Re: Live 8 + Reason + Rewire = artefacts / distortion in render?

Freezing and flattening, or recording the Reason synth to an audio track before rendering the tune in Ableton, should work. It's probably a Rewire issue.

Cheers.

Re: Need specific synth sound

Sounds like a basic waveform, maybe a saw wave going through a band pass filter, followed by a chorus effect.

Concept album

Hi guys,

I recently started work on a "concept" album, and I was wondering if anyone has any tips that would make things a bit clearer. I have finished one tune, kind of an intro/ prologue, and I really feel like I'm going into this blind. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Re: $5 if you can create me this sound in an Operator preset! :)

It's really not that hard. All you need is 2 oscillators playing sine waves in a 1:1 ratio. Adjust the level of osc B till you get that vocalish sound. Apply a low pass filter somewhere between 1 and 3 kHz. Set the filter envelope decay quite low to get that initial click. Maybe apply a pitch envel...

Re: Using instrument rack and chain selector

You could try mapping the faders of each chain in the rack to snap between min and max values.
