Re: Live 9 Open Sound Control Implementation?

Yes. There's some nice Max externals here:

http://cnmat.berkeley.edu/downloads

But essentially, have a look at the help for udpsend and udpreceive built in to Max - you can use it in M4L patches too.

Re: McMillen QuNeo looks to be everything I want in a controller

Trev I'm really interested in getting at least part of it out, and the last part I started and have been working on is a drum rack sequencer very close to push, with some differences. The thing is, it is MESSY, and still has quirks. I'm almost compelled to practically start that mode from scratch j...

Re: should i up grade my ram from 8gb to 16gb

RAM will not help your cpu use. This is really important to understand. Midi/synths are cpu intensive. You only need extra ram IF you are using alot of samples and sampled instruments. The best advice I can give you is - in general, from my experience and reading about many touring musicians, (from...

Re: Korg MS 20 mini

Regarding this 'noise' issue. I agree with leisuremuffin. My original MS-20 didn't have a noise problem, neither does my Mono/Poly or my more contemporary analogue synths the Voyager & Minitaur. I don't think the 'noise' issue is a "noise problem". I mean, when you have an oscillator turned up, you...

Re: should i up grade my ram from 8gb to 16gb

8Gb of RAM is the same as I have and I can get quite a lot running at far lower CPU usage. What processor does your machine have and what version of windows are you on? Do you have tons of plugins and audio tracks running or are you using any software instruments? Midi uses very little CPU unless it...

Re: Korg MS 20 mini

I got one last week and it's amazing. I have used the older MS-20's and it is pretty much exactly the same. The only difference is that a lot of the older ones are in need of service and can sound "dirtier" due to them being...well...old and dirty! I pre-ordered mine in May, first batch in the UK se...

Re: Operator Vs Analog

FM synthesis is vastly more complicated than subtractive synthesis. Often when people make sounds using an FM synth, it is not as if they know exactly how to make a certain sound - more of a case of playing around with it until it sounds good or even more often, slightly tweaking presets (which of c...

Re: External H/W Synth users with Ableton please chyme in...

tnx trev, yes EMU is multitimbral. Totally clueless on "M4L". If its some addon thing I'm not crazy about the idea. Does it cost anything? Much prefer something built in to ableton. M4L=Max for Live, a version of Max that work natively within Live. If you have Live 9 suite, you have it - if not, it...

Re: Anyone else feeling embarrassed to be on this forum lately?

@Trevox Exactly! Autechre... for chrissakes how long have I wanted to post sound questions about how they do this or that effect... What's the use? If people knew they'd be making music as amazing as Autechre. I don't think people in general want to make music like Autechre - and that is a good thi...

Re: The new Mac Pro

Ha! Read back my first comment in this thread - I said I wouldn't be buying one! And I won't. I even questioned the fact there are no firewire ports - yes, I actually questioned a decision apple made! Pretty much all I said was that if it actually performs as designed, it is a great design. I'll let...

Re: Anyone else feeling embarrassed to be on this forum lately?

@Blendton Reading between the lines of your Eric Cantona-esque posts (as a Frenchman, I thought you would find that amusing), I think what you are trying to say is that all music has already been written and it is the sound design/technology aspect that matters now? I can agree to a point as most po...

Re: The new Mac Pro

huh? Mother board is cooled by air cooling system as same as before. And where is the optical drive & 4 HDD cases? It broadly features bottom part only except PSU. Nope, One heat sink, one fan cooling the entire system. The heat/air distribution design is completely different by distibuting the hea...

Hi guys, I've only 1 outboard sytnh. An EMU Proteus2000. I'm struggling to select particular presets using the bank/sub/patch choosers in Ableton clip box. Very poor implementation. Do you have any advice on it. Its very frustrating.... Yep. I don't have a Proteus, but have a lot of outboard gear a...

it just looks like they removed upper part and fliped... http://www.gadgetell.com/images/072006/mp-inside.jpg No it doesn't - are you blind? it features less drive function than previous model. Thanks for restating what we already know. Any comment on the design other than incorrectly stating it "l...
