Re: Does anyone actually use Abletons built in instruments?

regarding the tiny ui's for the built-in stuff... i'm also a bit mixed about that. i love the consistency and ability to use macros, but it is limiting for some busy ui's, especially some ml4 devices. i wish there where an option to pop up a larger version in a modal/modeless window so you could par...

dsp coding environment in the browser with javascript

this is super neat: http://wavepot.com/

imagine if they put a 'patcher' abstraction on top of it with step-sequencers!

Re: Free Eventide multi effect plugin

for anyone complaining about the aesthetics of ui's (not ergonomics)... if it works, it works. pro's across different engineering disciplines use apps that look like vb6/msdos monstrosities. it's only really consumer ended software that needs flashy graphics for marketing.

Re: Free Eventide multi effect plugin

the real-time pitch micro-shifting looks good. the demo video does a good job of showcasing what it can sound like on certain material. nice for a freebie.

Re: midi out step sequencer on ipad?

that's a shame. touchAble looks cool though, but i think it's aimed for control of an existing live set. seems like there would be a nice niche for a dumb midi-out polyphonic step-sequencer app. hopefully a firmware update or hack to the beatstep will allow at least some of the nice-to-have features...

midi out step sequencer on ipad?

i like the idea behind the arturia beatstep, but it looks mono-phonic. are there any decent step sequencer apps on ipad that sync with host that would work for drum programming? having the scale lock for monophonic melody sequencing would be great too. * edit * other features that would be nice: 1) ...

Re: musical gift for 3 year old?

all those korg mini synths look really cool, even for an uncle, but i think it might be too much sound design and not enough music. the ribbon controllers don't exactly enforce the idea of discreet notes. opting for something with 2 octaves and buttons/keys.

Re: musical gift for 3 year old?

thx, sage advice all around. i do like the idea of a toy pipe organ. trying to find one of those old ones that have a constant flow of air going. a buddy of mine recorded with one and they sound great.

musical gift for 3 year old?

gotta get something for my niece. i was thinking about a color-coded xylophone just to teach basic note relationships, but is there anything else (maybe even a tiny synth) a kid might grow into and learn more from? oh yeah, fun would be good too.

seriously though, i'd be more worried about the amplitude damaging equipment vs the frequency.

Re: Software synths for house chords?

I only purchased Massive, but I'll look into Reaktor. Perhaps I'll just buy NI Komplete when I get some money. if you look at the layout of that ensemble, you can probably build up a rack that does the same thing with simpler + single cycle waveform samples, the chord midi device and auto-filters. ...

Re: Software synths for house chords?

do you have reaktor? this ensemble has lots of chord voicing presets for house chords and the way the oscillators are laid out makes it easy to build up your own voicings: http://youtu.be/F2glt3AcXs4

Re: Midi Guitar - Jam Origin

Maybe interface with M4L? well sure, insofar that you can receive, transform & send midi to something else, but i'm willing to bet m4l has way more/better higher level midi abstractions. if you already have ml4, this probably isn't too exciting, but i don't and i spend time in other daws from time ...

Re: Midi Guitar - Jam Origin

Have you seen the polyphonic tuner display? Crazy. and I just discovered that you can route MIDI output from another track through the MIDI Machine and use it purely as a MIDI processor yes, exactly! i haven't spent much time with it to explore what lua language features are already included, but i...
