2 CD set of Trojan Record classics mixed by DJ Spooky. It gets good toward the 2nd disc when he finally stops scratching and fast-mixing and just rinses the tracks out, back-to-back.

Er, I'm w/ compositeone on this one- didn't rock my socks in any major way. Average track, and I've seen/own all those old Shaw Bros flicks for days. Some clever/cute After Effects editing or whateva but no big whoop *shrug*

Heh heh, good point. Well it's difficult for me to see a guy with a laptop right in his face and feel that he's disconnected from the crowd. But it also depends on your vibe, your music. I mean I'd WANT a glitchy/super-processed music guy to be way into his screen/software, tweaking parameters and w...

That's a *nice* machine you got coming your way Machinate! My only concern would be the 12" screen. I have the Toshiba R25 which is 14" and it's still a bit tiny to see stuff when I'm playing. Toshiba's come with some sort of "zoom" utility, but I've never used it. In any case, I'm sure you can your...

Laptop cooling fans

Anybody using one of those laptop chill pads with any success? The ones with fans look pretty flimsy, the ones that are basically giant heatsinks I'm skeptical of. Any recommendations much appreciated- gotta keep the rig cooler in hot club situations- thanks!

DDR 2nite

Finally after seeing this cat's name everywhere I'm gonna see DDR play live tonight, in a warehouse, here in Oakland (California). I went to his page and found this funny little bit of praise for Live 4: http://www.triphazard.net/ (go to the LIVE section) "On the left side of the screen are arranged...

Drive seeking

Does keeping your samples in 3-4 different locations slow things down b/c your hard drive has to seek in different directories all the time? Could this possibly cause little glitches? If you collect all your disperate samples and drop 'em all in the same folder as my live set project, would you noti...

What's your CPU/soundcard Brad? Sounds odd that you can't play that kinda stuff back without problems... IntelCore 2 Duo Processor 1.60GHz running a Layla24 soundcard. My liveset is pretty robust, but it should definitely be able to handle another softsynth or two. Makes me wonder if something funn...
