Re: 15 yrs of dig. audio, pops & crackles still driving me nuts

mbenigni: I suspect your NVidia video card or it's driver. I have an earlier generation NVidia card and have had all kinds of problems in Live with a system that was state of the art at the time it was built. I suspect that either the hardware or the driver has optimizations that confiscate bandwidt...

Re: what's your current lowest latency?

To the OP: ASIO4ALL is a wrapper and still uses your driver program. The wrapper adds latency to the value that you see reported in Live. So..... your reported value of 2.36 (output?) latency is actually higher. BTW what's your total value reported and how many VSTs and audio channels can you suppor...

Re: PA help

If it truly is the cell phone causing RF interference, reproduce it by purposely calling a nearby phone. (of course do this during a rehearsal/test time). If you can reproduce it mute each of the sources on the mixer board until you identify the bad mike. Most likely it is a poorly or improperly shi...

Re: rubber buttons eat my smoke...

Take a tip from the table tennis world (ping pong). They do NOT use alchohol on their rubber. It dries out the rubber and accelerates deterioration. Warm water or soap and water can work wonders with the rubber. However there are some tars that you need some kind of solvent to attack, but it will at...

Re: Expensive cables are better than cheap cables?

This has gone around on the various boards a thousand times or more. Digital cables are one thing. Audio interconnects are another. HOWEVER...... Monster is a rip off. Cheap cables have cheap hardware and are subject to shorts and bad physical connection. Also guitar cables are very sensetive to cap...

Re: Masterkeyboard with 88 keys (piano feeling) - which one?

I have yet to find an 88 key midi controller that has a "good" piano feel. They are all funky. That said I use a Yamaha S08 electric piano for a great feel and includes pitch and modulus wheels. I use other controllers for the sliders/etc. I would recommend going and playing yourself, but do checkou...

Re: acoustik room treatment - how big are your db - differences?

To the OP: Even treated the room will have lots of variation in response and the phrase "flat" is relative. A well treated room sounds "good" most places in the room, not flat. In other words treating makes your room well behaved. Look at the frequency response of the room across the entire spectrum...

Re: Just had a demo of Cockos - Reaper

I've had a Reaper liscence since the late 1.x period. It is a good DAW. So is Live. Just how do you want to work? I like Reapers mixing setup. I still use live for almost everything, because it's routing is more intuitive. Reaper is a well programmed DAW with a minimalist approach. Live has a librar...

Re: Need a low priced Mic, advice welcome!

Unless you plan on recording guitar amplifiers or drums, i.e. high volume sources, I would stay away from the Shure SM-57. It "is" a fantastic all around microphone. BUT that is if you have great mike preamps to record vocals our acoustic sources, i.e. low volume sources. The preamps can run easily ...

Re: The mix in my headphones and mointors are totally different

Isone Pro sounds interesting. It wasn't around the last time I checked for this stuff.

The other two you mentioned aren't quite the same thing as Isone Pro, which seems to be real modelling.

I might buy that.....

Re: The mix in my headphones and mointors are totally different

This is a classic issue. Headphones have no crossfeed like your ears listening to monitors do. With monitors your left ear hears the left channel and the right channel too. With headphones they are isolated. So when you mix with headphones (which are sonically superior in most cases) you don't have ...

Re: Finally a nice footswitch

Seems flimsy and more suited for the studio and socks than a live gig/ on the road. The 10 switch configuration is poor for footcontrollers. The upper row should be elevated to easily delineate the two rows. Generally when one is using a foot controller you don't use your eyes much so you need to ha...

Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?

I think that card uses the same driver as mine. (NVidia Version 196.21) Are you using the factory (notebook brand) drivers? If you are using the latest NVidia driver then I don't understand why you can't adjust the slider. You might want to hit the NVidia forums to ask that question. You do have a l...

Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?

MikeMC: To use the hardware slider you need to re-enable the video card. Disabling it is just a quick check to determine if that is the problem. You've answered that. Turn it back on, and then you should be able to control the hardware accelerator slider. (In other words: There is no slider for hard...
