Re: Keyboardists -What is the Best/Real 88 Key controller?
I have tried various midi only keyboards by CME and StudioLogic and found them lacking, in terms of "real" feel. I like my fully weighted Yamaha S08 far better, for that proper "action". I have this to the left of my desk. Keyboardists generally like 2 types of keys; piano and synth. One is weighted...

Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
Turning it off has identified your culprit. Now you just have to find a solution. Sounds like you have a real basic video card if there is no acceleration features. Have you tried newer driver, update? Anyway, play with your video options is the answer. Have you checked for IRQ conflicts with the ca...

Re: 8.1.1 users, Pops and Clicks, can you make them happen?
If you are using Windows, try turning down your "hardware acceleration" slider under the advanced properties for your display settings (troubleshoot tabs). The easy way to check is to simply disable your video card (it will revert to VGA) and then try your window resizing etc. If that is it. then re...

Re: NVidia graphics driver problems
Yeah, I am surprised this is not so boldly suggested at the "windows optimization for audio" type sites. It usually is suggested for problems when using the mouse (zipper noise or pops while moving mouse), so I ignored it since I specifically noticed problems when I didn't even touch the mouse. Most...

Re: NVidia graphics driver problems
Well I found a decent fix!!! Pulling down the graphics "Hardware Acceleration" slider just one notch fixed the problems. The funny thing is that this is usually for when your moving the mouse and changing the graphics. This fixed all of my pops and crackles. I'm down to 10.7 ms total latency (includ...

Re: NVidia graphics driver problems
I was going to point to Powermizer, since I know some people had an issue with that. Not going to help though. The known issue with those Nvidia's was that when downclocking they caused huge dpc spikes (search dpc latency geforce / nvidia / video / or something along those lines to find out). The s...

Re: NVidia graphics driver problems
I've got the latest driver 196.21 (happened with earlier versions too.) I messed with the 3D settings shutting them all down for use with live and still no luck. Just reducing res seems to help.
I might try the config file. Where is that?

NVidia graphics driver problems
I have been having the occasional snap-crackle-pop independent of buffer size and finally used the DPC Latency Checker to trace down my problems. I am using a Desktop with a decent setup and a TI firewire card with a Presonus firepod. According to what I can figure out is when my graphics card (NVid...

Re: Real Acoustic Drums
BFD and Superior will provide the best sampling (and therefore potential sound), but require some good mixing skills because the treatment of the drums tends to be a bit raw, like you just recorded them in the studio with lots of mikes. Addictive drums is easier to use but the quality of the samples...

Re: Supreme Court Removes Limits on Corporate Campaign Spending
The hypocrisy of the left is astounding. News Corporations have long provided "editorials" and "endorsements" of political candidates. These are the exceptions to the law that was struck down that were noted by Justice Kennedy in his written remarks. Why is it that a given PAC or other corporate ent...

Re: adjusting guitar truss rod
Guitar setup is pretty easy once you understand a guitars geometry, every guitar player should do their own. If you have a luthier do it they better know your playing style intimately becuase they are going to give you just a "generic" setup otherwise. All of the 'greats' out there have different se...

Re: What Acoustic Guitar do you play?
I have a Larivee D-03 Dreadnought that is sonically between a Taylor and a Martin, i.e. not bright/pingy but also not muddy/earthy. The woodwork is superior to both.
I also play a Breedlove AC250/SW-12 a 12 string. Nice for an Asian guitar.

Re: 20ms of latency with presonus firebox - really??
i am on 48khz  I just did the calcs and with 176/41000 samples in buffer you should get a latency (just buffer) of slightly under 4 ms. The rest of that is round trip junk that the driver adds for internal hardware latency. Asio4all lets you handle all the sizes a little better but the preson...

Re: 20ms of latency with presonus firebox - really??
I am using a firepod but have had similar results. I get the same basic levels when switching drivers to asio4all. I can get a single track to be okay at much lower ratings but when I adjust for heavy loading/multi tracks I get the following settings: 44100 hz 176 samples (buffer) 5.62 ms (input) 9....
