Re: Where can I find an online tutor for EDM production?

The way you describe your hassles, I see an exact fit for Mike Monday. Look him up on YouTube; he has plenty of free videos. Your problems aren't technical or musical, but mental. A course specific to EDM production ("how do I make bassline X") is not what you need, but a toolbox of creative strateg...

Re: How to map shortcuts to a single key

True. Perhaps you might be in a position to influence that? :) Those two separate buttons actually work very well for my purposes, so I'm sorted.

Re: How to map shortcuts to a single key

Nailed it! 8O :D You can map shortcuts on Mac for 'menu items'. You need to use the exact name that appears in an application's menu bar. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/18680315/Screen%20Shot%202017-02-16%20at%2022.16.00.png In above example (I messed up the img size but should still be readabl...

Re: How to map shortcuts to a single key

Thanks, but my mouse is on a lower level on my desk than my keyboard (desktop, not a Macbook), so it still requires two hands. I haven't found a solution on Maxforlive. I'll see if there is a mac hack of some sort that can achieve this, but I don't have high hopes.

How to map shortcuts to a single key

I'm wondering if anyone has found a solution for the following: – My right hand rests on a mouse or controller. – I often find myself wanting to create overview on my screen by closing the Browser (alt + cmd + b) and Detail View (alt + cmd + L) panels. – With Ableton's native shortcuts, I need to us...

Thanks for sharing. I tried your example, then found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWlXMzp ... e=youtu.be
Both are very useful methods but I really like Volumeshaper, so I've set my template up that way.

Re: Does any one perform with a Mac Mini ?

Ok, in that case you have way more experience than I do with touring so please ignore my ramblings as I now see they are unrelated to your question.

One obvious suggestion I might add in response to wanting to hide the computer as much as possible: have you ever considered Push 2?

Re: Does any one perform with a Mac Mini ?

I use a 2009 mini in the studio and a 2015 Macbook Pro for performance. Technically it might be possible to use a mini on tour but I don't see how a touring artist would want to deal with the hassle. Out of the arguments that you mentioned, only 'price' seems a real issue, the others can be solved o...

Re: sidechain compression with fabfilter pro-c

Here's another thought. I'm not fond of promoting gear addiction and buying more plugins that you need, but it might be worth looking at Cableguys Volumeshaper. It's fairly cheap (€30,-) and takes the 'signal' part out of sidechaining. I use both Pro-C and Ableton's compressor, but for ducking, Volu...

Re: sidechain compression with fabfilter pro-c

Hm, that's a shame. The only alternative I can think of now would be to create a channel that captures all the audio that you want ducked, then add one Pro-C compressor on that one. That would mean that all your audio would get one and the same Pro-C treatment, which might not be what you want.

Re: sidechain compression with fabfilter pro-c

I'm just basing this off of the explanation from Fabfilters page (http://www.fabfilter.com/help/pro-c/support/externalsidechaining) without having the Pro-c on my machine to actually test if this works, which means I might be way off.. .. but it looks like Fabfilter has described one of two ways to ...

Re: Using endless encoder as absolute knob

Thanks guys! Yur2die4 nailed it. "Relative (BinOffset)" seems to be the best mode to assign an endless encoder to a knob with the purpose of 'sweeping' it hands on, as you would with eg a hp/lp filter.

I've been using Ableton since version 5 and this is totally new to me. Always be a student :)

Using endless encoder as absolute knob

Just wondering if anyone here has ever found themselves in a situation where they wanted to map an endless encoder for use as an absolute knob? I have an xone k2 and want to map one of the endless encoders to control e.g. a send in Ableton. The endless encoder only sends on/off type message, while I...

Re: I want to quit.

P.s. regarding "not being musical": I can play piano, but 95% of the artists I admire cannot and they have found other ways to express themselves. Mike Monday talks about how musical tutoring can actually prevent you from being creative. I can confirm that it can get in the way, so don't think that ...

Re: I want to quit.

Hey Octavio, I've dabbled with live for almost a decade now and feel like i've finally realized i have no musical talent whatsoever. I want to sell all my stuff and move on but i just feel bad. How can i just give it up? have you ever felt like this? I just sold you that VVV plugin and noticed this ...
