Re: who owns the recording?

But regarding the whole "if it was recorded in your studio it's yours" (not the same situation as the OP): If I record my song in your studio and agree to pay a certain rate and don't, obviously I don't "own the recording" and you probably won't -and shouldn't- give it to me. But it's still my song....

Re: who owns the recording?

Regarding Copyrights: I was just on the us government's copyright website -because I'm going to register my single soon- and found this bit of info in their FAQ: When is my work protected? Your work is under copyright protection the moment it is created and fixed in a tangible form that it is percep...

Re: Mastering&Mixing problems.

I tried Izotope Ozone5 recently. It looks like it's capable of doing a lot, but it's also pretty complex and I have so many pieces of software and things to learn right now that I don't think I'm at the level of experience to make the most of it at this time. I also think Ableton has plenty built-in...

Re: who owns the recording?

well if no money has changed hands and it was recorded at your studio i'd say that you'd own the mechanical rights (the copyright associated with the sound recording itself). if you composed the track then you'd own the music as well This is correct, whoever paid for the recording owns it, or if no...

Re: who owns the recording?

Did you compose the music alone? I don't think you keeping the track is really an issue as long as you don't intend to release it and make money off it without giving due credit and royalties to the co-writer. I'm pretty sure that even if something has not been legally copyrighted the owner of the l...

ASIO sample rate question

How much does the sample rate you set your ASIO to affect the the quality of the audio? If I have it at 128 samples some of the time, 512 other times, etc., does it make any difference.. or is the sample rate I select in my preferences (and export) the only thing I need to be concerned about?

Something I've learned: You can have all the technology in the world and it's still not going to make your music for you.

Dragonbreath wrote: On export I usually go 16 bit 44,1
since thats the best quality anyone will probably end up listing too
I dont dither
But is this really the best quality to export? Opinions? Doing final mix-downs and mastering tracks is extremely difficult (/practically impossible) for me at this point.

When it comes to integration with other applications, Ableton is probably one of the more friendlier DAWs, no?

At the top click View, check Help View, and then on the right you should see Lessons.

Hope that helps!

Re: Ableton's inability

Dont get me wrong I would like to see Live get updated, but I wanna see it updated with it's original intent in mind, Live performance. As someone who's primarily using it to write and record right now, I definitely would want to see Live continue to expand both its studio and performance capabilit...

Re: Reducing microphone latency

You're using an ASIO, right? There are settings that can be adjusted in your preferences. Adding certain audio effects can sometimes help (maybe try the low latency limiter). I know the latest update of the software (8.2.7) has a new "Reduced Latency When Monitoring" feature, but I haven't downloade...

Re: insane activation policy

^this company is not disappearing, though, and anyone who thinks so is wrong no, they just have an opinion. Exactly :) And my opinion is that the notion that Ableton is going out of business anytime soon--or that they would somehow disappear, pull an Enron and completely screw this software and all...
