Re: How to Time Stretch/Pitch Shift with maximum quality?

I haven't formally compared Ableton to Logic, Trakor, nor Protools, although I am certified with the later, so this is just my ears talking: as you have gathered Repitch is not using granular methods to speed up a track. But to suggest that a tune further astray from its original tempo is a more pur...

Re: master fader

I've always wanted to be more vigilant with this advice, but I have a few routings that take advantage of signals arriving at unity gain. Furthermore, it is now possible to save each of your track types and their included devices as a default, including the fader level. Look at the option in your co...

Re: How are you using 2nd window on 1 monitor?

Ah, indeed that was much easier than I was making it. Thank you. I was used to creating spaces in previous versions of OSX. The Control+Left/Right Arrows definitely make moving around worthwhile (as opposed to pressing mission control each time). I am getting some behavior which may or may not be us...

Re: Web Series About Electronic Music Performance and Production

+1 on getting a link or a run down of your production company. Let me know if you need any help. I work in dialog audio for broadcast and film. I'm also in the city.

And down the road, I imagine my approach to playing would offer some perspective. I've been on Live since version 2

Re: Epic Drum Racks Vol. 1 (free drum machine library/drum rack)

Porter Wood created a version of EDR to include individual outs for each instrument Hiya Illiac, thanks for getting the word out about the multi-routing version. As far as I can tell, however, that link only points to a zip of a folder regarding the screen shots and brochure for Vol 1: Epic Drum Ra...

Re: A warping technique for dj's

Wow, this is profound! Thanks so much for this. And I haven't even tried it with odd meters yet; just tried to rhythmically get a feel for the divisions and work out the fractions for dropping notes. It takes some practice counting and anticipating the outcome, particularly when a loop might already...

Re: A warping technique for dj's

Honestly, I can not replicate the syncopation that you are referring to. I can see how other tracks and effects (like delays) would make the polyrhythm apparent, but a beat warped track on the 1/4 note is going to sound the same in any meter if the master tempo is that same downbeat. Wouldn't even m...

Re: Experimental/Advanced Dub Delay using Max for Live and 9

Great idea-I like to make my creative choices as dangerous as I can pull off, while playing it as safe as possible on folk's ear drums. I could definitely put a couple of my returns through here. And I like the resulting dub delay. Makes me wonder if I can clear out filter delay from my regular use....

Re: How are you using 2nd window on 1 monitor?

Seems like a reasonable idea. Thing is, with mission control on mavericks I couldn't even convince the additional floating window to drag over to a new space. So really it just cluttered the screen like a plug in window. I think your clip view maxed out is a good idea, and as you say, when returning...

Re: Autobeat/Spectrum Effects. Your views.

I have both packs and I love the results. The Spectrum Effects however are cpu intensive. Would love to unleash them on an audience, but they behave like they're relegated to the studio. I bought them from the developer's own check-out system. If you spring for them, let me know if you've found ways...

Re: This dual monitor business. What am I not getting??

I'm with you on the headline, but for rather contrary reasons. Still, if it doesn't effect performance and I'm not paying for the difference, why would I make a stink about it? I like the delineation between arrangement and session. I wouldn't want to muddle this mutual exclusivity further by having...

Re: Sample Library Selection and Organization

Glad I could help. Confession: I've continually been resistant to the ableton browser. I often need to decide if I'm best saving my ideas on the meta-level, clip level, the session level, etc. That's on me. https://www.ableton.com/en/articles/filetypes-used-by-ableton/ As you suggested, I'm also fin...

Re: Compressor (including sidechain effect) in sequence

You'll hate me, but it depends. You could even use two, one before and one after, if you know what to listen for and you haven't whipped the life out of your track (unless that's what you're going for). Here's an example of this https://www.ableton.com/en/blog/one-note-leads-analog/ What is the loud...
