Re: reason essentials sale

I don't agree that it's useless. While it doesn't have some Reason's biggest work horses, It does include Operator, and NNXT, and the Scream4 effect which can sound nice sometimes... Especially if you don't have Suite, this would be an affordable instrument upgrade. $130 bucks to expand the instrume...

Re: I may be using External Instrument wrongly - can anyone help

You should definitely be able to hear your FX on your hardware, if you have the external instrument rigged correct. Can you post a screenshot of your setup? (alt-print screen in Windows, and I think cmd-shift-4, followed by pressing the space bar in Mac) I would take a shot of your Live set in sessi...

Re: Is there a way to thin out MIDI CC data ?

I'm sorry if this answer was obvious, and not what you are looking for, but this is the only way I know to accomplish this. If you press Ctrl-B (Cmd-B), you can switch between the pointer mode and the "pen" mode. Pen is awesome for marking CC to specific time settings. Zoom your grid to the level of...

Re: External instrument device

Your question seems kind of vague, as I'm not sure if you mean recording the audio straight from the synth into Live, or recording the midi you are playing on your synth, and playing that back from your synth, and into Live... The External Instrument device ultimately handles a few routing tricks in...

Re: Mainstage with Ableton - First Thoughts

I take it back - It was just very unintuitive to find how to edit the synth itself, if you aren't familiar with Logic (me!) To anyone who comes across this thread and is interested in playing with the Logic instruments without knowing anything about Logic: Load up a new blank keyboard set. Right cli...

Re: Mainstage with Ableton - First Thoughts

To anyone eyeing this up who do not currently own Logic, but are looking to pick up the instruments that come with Logic: Logic instruments: Here's a small list, Sculpture, Ultrabeat, ES2, EVB3, EXS24mkII < -- this one is a super fast sampler. Are all these included? Nobody ended up answering this, ...

Re: Ability to export sheet music? (built in, plugins, etc.?)

Garageband came free with my mac, and it allows basic score editing as well. I've downloaded midi files from the internet and washed them through Garageband to make my own cello arrangements~ Mac only, of course.

Re: Guides to Operator Programming

I believe there are some tutorials in Live's help area: http://www.ableton.com/pages/instruments/operator/showcase/learn_to_operate Definitely start with those. Once you finish those, it would probably be best to explore FM synthesis in general, as you can apply all of this knowledge to Operator. Go...

Re: how can i make this effect? i think it's a vocoder, HELP!

Yes, they used a vocoder to recreate the Daft Punk vocals. See the link above for a free one. You will need two audio channels, one with a synth to control the overall sound and pitch, and another that has the vocals that will control the formants/filters. For an in-depth lesson in how to use this: ...

Regarding finishing many tracks at once, it seems like any time I finish one, I'm on fire and can pop out at least another ne.Probably from the excitement of completion. :D

Re: CDD...completion deficit disorder

This may be irrelevant, but I had the same problem for a very long time. A few years ago someone posted on the ALDJ forums a tip for breaking that ice, using something I'll call subtractive sequencing, and it actually helped me finish some tunes. The idea is that when you are in Session view, it's r...

I'm relatively new to trolling this forum, and this post is a winner.

Thanks for the reminder. I suck at backing up, and have indeed lost some of my older stuff.

Re: 2 questions Live&Rewire

Live + Reason has the same 32 / 64 bit problem. I had to tell OSX to open Reason in 32 bit mode only, and then it works. Perhaps you can try this with Logic? This was the post that describes the process, I would expect it to work the same for Logic: http://shrubbery.mynetgear.net/c/display/W/Using+L...
