he used to use a nord micromodular. now he's got a g2. he posts over at electro-music.com sometimes. he's a nice guy. i make some automatic music sometimes with the nord g2. it's a good concept-i'm currently trying to integrate live into that kind of an idea-so far it's been using it as kind of a bi...

i got my mind blown when i gave a couple tracks to my buddy john to master-i hadn't compressed anything, but was quite careful in mixing. it came back and just sounded great, "radio ready", punchy, clean, beautiful. i asked what kind of compression he had used and he said "none". just eq.

-not all vst's have a dry/wet control
-you can't save the effect and have it open up muted (unless you do the drag/button command-lol)
-you may want the option to turn it on "hard" rather than turning up a wet/dry knob
-etc. etc. it's always good to know another way to do thing.

lol i figured it out- i had a track on resample-and then was sending it to another track, so i think there were some latency things (you know how it automatically mutes when you resample so it doesn't feedback...) that were sneaking through the cracks and making it a very unhappy pappy. but, what i ...

advice on using ableton generatively?

what i've been sitting here trying to do, crashing the computer over and over again with some rewire thing- blasting the clip record buttons with an external sequencer over midi, at the same time as resampling the master (the resample setting) it's working, but it gets these little buzzy errors, and...

Re: years go by, I still hardly understand compressors

I tend to just push the ratio up and the threashold down and then keep the attack and release really low... it's sad isn't it....... lol that one hits close to home. one thing i'm glad i learned about is side chaining compression. also, eq+ compression is a great tool-i always end up using eq-> com...

maybe this is a good place to ask: wouldn't recording/working at a higher sample rate make time-stretching and pitch shifting better? like, theoretically, in a 44.1K recording, everything above 22.05K is folded over, which you can't hear, but if you drop the whole thing one octave, all that stuff fr...
