Re: Definition of Fattening and Beefing up ?

Adding more stereo width would be another way to create a fatter sound. I also think that adding more lower frequencies would be another way to increase the subjective fatness of it. A term used recently in another thread will be a good fit here.. "There are plenty of ways to skin a cat" and I think...

Re: Definition of Fattening and Beefing up ?

Most people would agree on what "fatness" is because it is a fairly well recognised term. But despite this, it is still pretty hard to describe what it means without using other loosely defined adjectives. Generally speaking you want the sound to be fuller so that the sound has more presence. You ca...

Re: .ASD File Question

The .wav file is usable completely on its own. It has no use for (or any knowledge of) the .asd file. Feel free to delete the .asd file and distribute the .wav without it. The .asd file contains ableton's settings and analysis data for the audio file it is associated with. Whenever you use an audio ...

Re: Live 8 won't recognize APC-40

In your preferences under MIDI Sync do you have the APC40 selected in all three columns? (Control Surface, Input & Output). Do you get the red box around the tracks in session view? Also, to troubleshoot any possible conflicts with your other MIDI gear set everything to off in the lower MIDI Ports s...

Re: Harsh reality of Automation in Live or I'm doin it wrong?

You should think twice about automating any of the mixer controls (volume, pan, sends etc..) because you run into the exact problem that you describe. Always try to find a work around (e.g automate a Utility plug-in instead) and if you cant then as a last resort, add the mixer automation after you a...

Re: simplelive performance question-> midi and apc40 and looping

Live will only ever play one clip at a time from each track so I dont think the set-up you describe will work for you. You should check out the Looper audio effect. It doesn't create clips (do you specificity need the clips to be created?) but it does record a loop of audio and automatically play it...

Re: Mid / Side and the Utility plugin.

I figured out what is going on.. Setting the Utility Width control to 200% does not leave you with the side component. It is actually the side component but then converted back in to L/R stereo. I guess it makes sense that the Utility does this last step for you.. L/R stereo goes in -> L/R stereo co...

Mid / Side and the Utility plugin.

Hi, I've been playing around with the Utility plugin because I'm bored and decided to figure out how the Width control works. Now from my understanding, setting the Width to 200% should leave you with the side channel (i.e. the difference between the left and right channels). Before we go any furthe...

Re: Compressor attack

Got it? Nope, because you didn't explain the scenario that I asked about. We all know what a compressor does and what attack and release are, the question is more about the specifics of how they interact together. What happens when the level drops below the threshold before the attack duration has ...

Re: Compressor attack

yes, but however you look at it, you'll never know the exact moment the level drops below the threshold. Therefore, making the numbers pretty much meaningless. I think I understand what you're trying to get at.. Does the compressor always complete the attack phase before starting the release, or wil...

Re: Routing Question

How about creating a new track to specifically hold the filter and set its 'Audio To' chooser to the compressor track. Then if you want something compressed you send it to the compressor track, or if you want it filtered and compressed, you send it to the filter track. Unfortunately this set-up does...
