Re: How to get really good at Music/Art

What I'm saying is 'all things being equal, some folks are better than others at any given activity'. I would say that there is nothing that can be equal. You may find two individuals who actually put in 10k hours practice time, but there are so many other determining factors that control how much ...

Re: How to get really good at Music/Art

to contrast to the above I can say that over the years I've met a handful of people that loved to TALK about playing guitar but after I loaned them a guitar or they bought one the talk slowly diminished over time and the practice NEVER happened. "it's too hard" "I think I'm left handed so I need an...

Re: How to get really good at Music/Art

is anybody seriously saying you can get really good at music/art without practice? Or that unless you are born with inbuilt genius you might as well not bother? Few people can achieve real greatness in any pursuit, but that doesn't mean there is nothing for the rest of us to contribute. At least th...

Re: How to get really good at Music/Art

there could have been other mozarts since his time who's work never became known because of circumstance ....don't confound mastery with becoming known/famous...two separate issues ex: katy perry I'm not confounding the two at all. Mozart's fame is not relevant to the quality of his work. The numbe...

in an interview with YoYo Ma the interviewer said, 'its amazing what your talent has led you to achieve!'...YOyo: Yes! that, and the 100,000 hours of PRACTICE comparing sports and music is not an valid comparison read Outliers (malcolm gladwell) if this topic interests you...in a nutshell, anyone c...

Re: Why is beatport so pricey?

Guy I know recently released an album on beatport, first time I'd really checked the site out. £8.99 for mp3 (10 tracks).. £21 for wav..wtf! 8O

Guess they rely on most people buying single tracks and not thinking about how badly they are being ripped off.

Re: .fxb help for a noob

Yup, you'd need Sylenth 1 to use those patches unfortunately. It's not too expensive and is one of the better virtual analog synths knocking about, pretty simple to learn as well. Try the demo out maybe

Re: .fxb help for a noob

Go to your VST folder, find the folder that Sylenth is in, in that there should be another folder named 'soundbanks'.. chuck your .fxb in there and off you go. You don't need to do this in Ableton, treat it like any normal file you're moving about on your drive.

Re: Which Ableton plugins do you never use?

I like Grain Delay for making weird sounding risers/effects and Resonator is fun for clangy dubby type sounds.. guess we all get different mileage out of different plugins  Can't say I've ever used Vinyl Distortion but sure plenty of folks have.. anyway would rather see them add to the list th...

Re: My first video (Dark Horror Techno)

Nice tune :)

From 3mins in would sound pretty fierce on a big rig, although agree 'hard techno' isn't the right tag.

Wasn't quite so sure about the vid (nothing wrong with it mind).. just feel it could have been darker and scarier maybe.

Re: Live 9 will be for Windows only! (latest OSX buggy & slow.)

Why ppl get so angry with the joke? macheads are always making fun of pc's(and with all the right to do so)... but when someone makes jokes about their PRO machines is not that funny becuase pencilrocket has made about 500 posts about how he hates Apple products and how end users are stupid for buy...

Re: OMG! Trentemoller likes Live !!

wtf is trentemoller? It’s another example of using a more obscure producer’s word to trump a more commercially successful producers word. Also producers that include a lot of bleeps and blips in their music hold favor here. And I'm not hating on Trentemoller. It's just what happens here. Does comme...

Re: What are the actual differences between Live 8 vs Live Suite

Make sure you're actually launching Live 8 rather than Intro, when you upgrade it doesn't overwrite the old version but adds a new one. Sounds like that's your problem since you ought to have unlimited clips/tracks etc. You don't get any extra instruments but you do get racks and a few extra effects...

Re: can you say "smoke weed" on a song for radio

I salute your belief that your song could be played on the radio. And your belief that radio stations are going to include your song in their rotation of 12 total new songs they play each year. And that people pay attention to the radio beyond killing the numbing silence during their commute. *Hug*...

Re: Afraid to take the cake out of the oven

Also consider branching out beyond cakes. Sometimes having some compare/contrast is good when it comes to baking. I'm not so sure that's sound advice. There's a world of difference between a cake and a biscuit (for example) and if you muddle the two techniques you end up with a muddy undefined mess.
