try routing the audio of the track with all your clips to the input of a separate track, just for recording the arrangement. then when you want to do some overdubbing, move to another track so the first arrangement recording isn't lost. repeat as desired

1. instead of copy/paste, what you want to do is highlight the section you want to use, then hit ctrl-d (duplicate) - this will copy the selection to the arrangement right after the end time of your selection. you can hit ctrl-d as many times as you want to and it will keep adding on....

as far as not seeing that "ready for rewire" message - that is normal. you should see that each time you run a different version of live, but if you keep running one version, you won't see it after the first run

the old versions of live stay on your computer and are still functional - they're basically a completely different program. i like to keep them there, at least for a while, in case there's some problem with the new version. you can move your vst's to another folder, or set the new version to use the...
