internal hard drive

I haven't seen anyone mention cache. If you've got a lot of samples, you want to get a large cache rating,as your streaming samples off the hard drive,so the larger the cache the faster the samples stream, meaning more polyphony, less glitching.7200 rpm 32 cache if you can get it for a mac,is what I'd g...

Tubes

I got an ART studio V3 pre amp a time back and swapped the cheap nasty chinese tube for a 5751 electro-harmonix.Big difference in sound ,well worth it.It does say you ruin the warrenty if you open it up and mess around with it.Well just make sure you use the right tool to open it,and if anything doe...

Peavley Revalver 3

Just been trying out the demo.Amp Sounds are very warm for digital which surprised me in a good way, pretty cpu intensive if you get carried away with the things you can throw at it,effects stomp boxes, preamps poweramps cabinet sizes etc.Bit like GR and A2 in that. What I absolutely love about this th...

midi mapping

If you've got one of the M-audio controllers(axiom, keystation etc) you could use Enigma. This lets you manually assign any cc to any knob or slider or button.

Soundproofing

The next Sound On Sound is covering soundproofing in home studios. It's out on April 17th.The secret is having space between so sound finds it harder to cross. So something like 50mm lengths of wood for stud wall .strawboard for deadening properties, then stud wall, then rockwall, strawboard, then some ki...

Compression

Muddy mixes tend to have the 120 hz and lower frequency region to high.It can be tricky getting it right because this is where you get the warmth in a recording .Harbal 2.0 is very good in helping out,as you give it a wav song you like (it won't work with mp3s),and it shows the EQ graph. You can then...

m-audio oxygen

Hi Al I see oxygen 61 is listed in preferences midi/sync so it's an odd one.Check out Midiox http://www.midiox.com/app.htm.It shows what midi activity is being transmitted. Have you tried using Enigma? I think I'd start there, just setting it manually for the F1 slider and c19-28.If that doesn't work...
