Re: Depeche Mode-Sounds of the Universe

does anyone else feel that gahan's voice just doesn't fit the music anymore? Not particularly. I think it's all sounding pretty good together, though I agree with the other poster that Little Soul is not 100% good for Gahan, but to be honest I think it's a particularly weak song. Especially in cont...

Nice link. I also found this referenced from one of the comments - http://macminihometheater.blogspot.com/ - apologies if it's already been mentioned in this thread.

Re: Mac Mini as media server

Also what is the least painless way to keep the itunes library updated. I will still be mainly using my MBP to add new media to my library but maybe every month or so have the Mac Mini mirror that library with the possible exception that I may want TV show seasons on the Mini that I don't want to k...

Re: best cd ripper for mac os x?

Dunno how easy it is to come by on a Mac but cdparanoia combined with Lame is what I use on my Linux box. With a custom script you can stick in a CD and rip/encode in one fell swoop. Extending from the ripping/encoding side of things - anyone got a recommendation for a good tagger? I'm still using T...

Re: Cash in Hand for a MBP

So if I will be losing firewire speed does that mean that the benefits of recording multiple ins are lost or handicapped? There will be times I'll be recording real drums, is this going to be an issue? Relax dude. You said in your initial post that you're using a Presonus Firepod - from what I can ...

Re: Cash in Hand for a MBP

Try getting one of these: http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html - I picked one up cheap from Amazon recently. This is probably a more elegant solution - considering its 100% backwards compatible. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812270198 You can't beat a few 400-80...

Re: Depeche Mode-Sounds of the Universe

Got to agree with those who said the album was a grower - wasn't keen at first, but really enjoying it now. Though I notice I'm liking the Gahan-written songs a lot as well as the ones that sound more like his last solo album.

Re: should I trade my virus indigo B for a snow?

I am wanting to downsize my footprint. Hate to give up all those wonderful knobs but what's a man to do? These 2 units are similar in value. It looks like there's 5 knobs for realtime expression on the Snow and I assume the pitch and mod will work easily from a controller. But does it sound better?...

Re: ableton needs to be half the price

The way I see it Live has become a luxury item. It's more expensive than it's competitors because it has something unique to offer in the form of session view and the "warpy stuff" (I believe that's the technical term used in Ableton HQ). If you need to use these features, then you need to pay the p...

Re: OT: Love him, hate him: Mr. Reznor's next move

As far as the Ghosts comment. Dunno, was that released as just stems for people to mangle? I thought it was Trent playing with ambient drones at great length. It's like if we all took our unfinished Live sets, tossed on some kind of ending, and released them as a collective works. I was being flipp...

Re: Novation SL Mk II

I just don't get why they eliminated the second LCD screen... How the fuck are you supposed to know which tracks the faders are controlling without moving them? I'm going from memory here so I'm prepared to be completely wrong, but on my SL37 (the mk1 as there is no SL37 mk2) the tracks are control...

Re: WHAT IS THE BEST MASTERING TOOLS / VST FOR ABLETON!!!???!!!

I don't think you should be doing your own mastering. Judging by your all-caps subject line you have no concept of dynamics and will likely compress the shit out of anything you master ;-)
