CPU is the most important thing. Max out the CPU.

Re: other ways (than compression) to sidechain a synth parameter

I think you basically just need a Max for Live device of the LFO variety, like this: http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device/354/device-lfo . But that was just the first one I found. There are many versions of this. Some look/work better than others. You can find the list here: here . Click "LFO" t...

Re: iMac or new Mac Pro? Need some advice.

There's no comparison really, the Mac Pro is just way faster, but keep in mind, we're comparing machines that cost 2 or 3x the price of an iMac. +1 Yep. My experience has been the same. But not all hope is lost. It could be done on an iMac if that's all you can afford. You just have to be more judi...

Re: iMac or new Mac Pro? Need some advice.

that's another complication. there will be a sweet spot with CPU configuration that depends on the software you are using. having more cores that have lower maximum speeds isn't necessarily better than fewer faster cores, simply because there are lots of processing tasks that can't be spread across...

Re: Looking for plugin to convert audio to midi in real time

Well. I was able to get it working but... it doesn't work very well. The audio-to-midi converter either doesn't fire enough or fires too much depending on the source material. So I guess my question is: how can you setup a side-chain source that stays a consistent volume when the volume of your drum...

Looking for plugin to convert audio to midi in real time

Does anyone know of a real-time audio-to-midi converter for mac? Problem: I setup everything to side-chain to my drum group but then when I change the volume of my drums, it changes how hard all the other compressors are working. For example, if I lower my drums 4db, then all the side-chained compre...

Re: iMac or new Mac Pro? Need some advice.

there is nothing like overkill when it comes to CPU power ^Word. +1 Out of morbid curiosity, what in the everloving shit are you running that requires a Mac Pro? I own a video production company and a music scoring company. The computer helps with both businesses. When a client calls and says, "We ...

Re: iMac or new Mac Pro? Need some advice.

Thanks for your answer John, really helps a lot. I'm going for the fully blown 8 core in this case! Right on brother! You're going to love it. :) Just to defend myself: when I was typing about how you wouldn't need much RAM unless you were a DJ, I thought to myself, "Some OCD person is going to cal...

Re: iMac or new Mac Pro? Need some advice.

You want a Mac Pro. CPU is the single most important factor with Ableton Live performance. I actually started a thread here about this as well a while back. (Link: What is the absolute best computer for Ableton Live? ) I wound up buying the new 12 core Mac Pro. Let me tell you: it screams. I can hav...

Re: How to truly, fully, completely deactivate a plugin

Thank you! I will experiment and report back. I'm not so much interested in automating the plugin activations though as I am in just totally turning them off. Because even when plugins are deactivated, they are still causing latency. (e.g. Ozone deactivated on the master channel) So just to clarify:...

How to truly, fully, completely deactivate a plugin

Certain plugins cause latency even when they are deactivated. It's frustrating to have to delete them entirely to work on the track then add them back anytime I want to bounce. Particularly on the master channel since the channel can't be turned off. (e.g. Ozone) How do you truly, fully, completely ...

Re: Syncing ms20,mini modulation to live tempo

If I understand your question correctly, I do think there is a way to do this. Check out the software and hardware put out by Expert Sleepers. Here is a link: http://www.expert-sleepers.co.uk/hardware.html I know Celldweller uses their stuff to convert between audio/MIDI and CV (control voltage) so ...

Re: Bitwig vs Ableton - PDC Test (Video)

If you rewire Live through another DAW that does have PDC does that fix the problem? Can anyone test/verify this? (e.g. Live -> ProTools)
