Re: combine live sets?

But why would A be missing 30% of its size if I imported it into B? No, this should be only a fictive scenario, we do not import A fully into B, we import only its midi mappings to B, then Live should be able to check how similar the included tracks, devices, clip slots are and apply the midi mappi...

Re: Wondering why project file jumped from 10 to 110mb (8.1.4b2)

Well, if you cut/split especially longer midi clips into shorter parts, Live has the "speciality" of keeping the original clip length and just setting the looping points accordingly, so you need one more step to throw away the unlooped parts, which would reduce your file size again. In short after s...

Re: combine live sets?

I'd love to see a preferences checkbox: "Import MIDI/QWERTY Mapping with Live Sets?" Yes, but imagine you have two live sets, A and B. A is the bigger one, let us say containing 100 midi mappings and B has the size of 70% of A but with 0 midi mappings, so 30% of A are missing in B. Now it should be...

Re: combine live sets?

Also any MIDI ... assignments aren't copied, and will have to be re-created manually. Which is the hardest hardcore disadvantage of Ableton Live: Not being able to transform a totally unmapped project to a fully midi mapped project in one shot, without hundreds of mouse clicks and headache. As I ha...

non-Max4Live device behaving like a real Live device?

Did anybody develop so far any Live device which is a non-Max4Live device for midi and which behaves like a real Live device, meaning which you can use in sequence/chain with other Live midi devices. I mean anything which has not all the disadvantages of normal midi vsti-plugins? Or is this impossib...

Re: PROGRAM CHANGE recording and playback issues

I don't know (or care) abot the management of Ableton, but by Live I can tell they are fucking good. I do not know Ableton managers neither, the only thing we know related to this topic is somebody decided to use only one program change event per midi clip and all others agreed to this decision, at...

Re: PROGRAM CHANGE recording and playback issues

The bigger a company gets the more the probability for nonsense decisions increases because it is not always easy to convince lame managers in meetings why a certain feature is cool and has to be there exactly as said and not after averaging all "half-lame" further ideas. Too bad there are not...

Re: Filtering out program change events within Live

Nono, I think you got me wrong, sorry if my response was misleading. I did not imply you should go ahead and copy the rack 36 times. What I was thinking about was parsing the MIDI stream before it enters Live, then routing the program change messages to empty MIDI tracks and from there re-routing t...

Re: Filtering out program change events within Live

Is there any way you can make the program change message enter a different MIDI track rather than the one that holds the rack? Hmm, let me calculate, having 36 tracks each with 5 additional chains and one instrument per chain, makes all together 36 * 5 = 180 instruments. So I would need extra 180 t...

Re: PROGRAM CHANGE recording and playback issues

But Ableton Live developers could simply solve such problems by doing following: 1. Allowing each midi clip to contain more than one program change event, at least in the arrangement view and keeping the session view still limited to one program change event per midi clip, if you do not want to give...

Re: PROGRAM CHANGE recording and playback issues

At the very least I wish I knew the rationale for not allowing it. The rationale is maybe the aim for simplicity, right now one clip can contain only a single program change event. For all normal melodic playing cases, so far so good. But when you start experimenting with step sequencers and quick ...

Re: PROGRAM CHANGE recording and playback issues

Has anyone a good workaround - a way to record and play program changes without these inconviniences? Both of this problems can be solved, yes, using workarounds, at least under Windows, by using AutoHotkey and its midi input library. But still knowing the workarounds, I still do not use this metho...

Yes, but this will not help, as the program change has to enter Live, but only on a single chain, not on all six chains.

Filtering out program change events within Live

After the midi signal, in this example, a program change event enters a midi tracks input, is there a way to filter out this program change event within Live? My scenario is as follows: I have an instrument rack with 6 chains in it, each chain contains another synthesizer, now I want to send a progr...

Re: Ricardo Villalobos feature on Arte "24h Berlin"

Yes. It is absolutely impossible to accomplish anything serious with it. It cannot even compose. Even if that would be true, I really do not care! :) For me Live is the NUMBER 1 in the DAW world for live performances, followed by NUMBER 2 Reaper. Your last interview here is great. I liked especiall...
