Re: Suite DL or Box...biggest differences??

My understanding is Live 8 Suite Box adds Essential Instrument Collection 2 and Session Drums on top of everything in Live 8 Suite Download. It is also my understanding that as of Live 9, Suite Download will include all the extras that previously only came with Box -- meaning: as of 9, the only diff...

Live 9 browser, drawbacks?

Hi all, since the new browser is one of the core benefits of Live 9... Is it too wide? It seems a lot wider than the Live 8 browser, and my laptop screen is cramped enough as it is -- seems harder to drag stuff into Session, no? It also seems to add a step. In Live 8, if the browser is closed you ca...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

Lol, yes, it sounds like operator is your newest option. However, at this point, surely its worth it to record the audio separately? Lol Actually the Operator hack seems to work quite nicely. And nobody (so far) has asked, "yikes, what's that awful squeal?" The nice thing about this setup: I can si...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

The goal will be that it is not actually sending a low signal, but instead no signal (and thus, nothing,or significantly less to amplify). The gate is going to eliminate a lot of the background noise being picked up by the mic, and other issues with your recording setup that are only evident when y...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

I appreciate that. I'm not exactly sure how the Gate would help -- but I'd certainly prefer to not use the 20KHz if possible. My problem seems to be that the camera cranks the gain when the incoming signal is low -- and isn't the Gate going to send a low signal at quiet times -- in which case the ca...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

Hi all, thanks for the advice. If I'd to have more than one track, is this correct: 1) Create Return-1 and send all the tracks -- except the Operator track -- to Return-1 2) In Operator, sidechain to Return-1 3) Create Return-2 and send Return-1 and Operator to Return-2 And use Return-2 as the Line ...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

Hey, I finally got it, awesome! I tried more tests following ttilberg's Compressor suggestion, and I finally managed to get it working nicely with the camera. One last question: is there a way to push Operator higher than 20KHz? Or perhaps some other way to generate the high-freq tone from within Li...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

i still think you're better off recording the audio separately. it's not much work to sync the audio if you use a basic clapper system when recording, and you'll get a much better result. In the case of my dad, he's going to want to start and stop many times, and there will be many riffs I want to ...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

What camera do you have? AGC can be turned off on any camera that supports Magiclantern It's a Sony NEX -- I don't know of any ways to turn AGC off. I'm a bit peeved at the camera, as I had assumed I could simply patch audio in for a decent signal -- and Sony could make AGC on/off a simple settings...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

Gotcha, thanks. So with Gate attached to Operator, and Operator playing a steady 0db frequency, how would I then configure Gate so that the final master out remains at a constant flat level (eg, "filling in" my playing with Operator)? I still seem to be getting some bouncing when I play, and I'm hop...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

First, thanks again to everybody for all the help.

Are you saying the Gate effect is somehow all I need, and that I don't need to use Operator to generate a high frequency tone? I'm certainly not committed to using Operator, but I don't quite seem to understand how Gate can do it?

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

I would prefer to: 1) plug Line Out into my camera, record in camera, and be done vs: 1) record in camera 2) record in software 3) import video into video editor 4) import audio into video editor 5) align/sync audio to video in video editor 6) export new video Right? It's not for some professional p...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

You can put a sidechain gate on the operator track, and setting it so it opens when when the rest of the mix goes under the desired level. Thank you -- could you possibly explain more about what I actually need to do? I'm new to Live (and new to DAWs) and so I'm felling somewhat clueless. In any ca...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

i don't have any better solutions to offer, but i have to ask... do you have any pets? surely something will hear this sound. Ha! I'm banking on the idea that the 20KHz signal will be enough to disengage the camera's AGC feature, but that the camera codec will then toss out most of the 20KHz signal...

Re: Weird Q: how to make a constant, inaudible (high pitch) tone

Thank you, apologies, one more: It seems like I'd want Operator at 0db -- but then when I play another track, I clip. If I pull down the Operator level, then the final master level bounces (which could then engage the camera's AGC). Is there some way to "fill in" the remaining total mix sound with O...
