Re: Native Instruments and Tim Exile present: The Mouth

To the extent this overlaps with a vocoder, NI ought to give it to Komplete owners for free, having screwed them by discontinuing Vokator after Komplete 4 or 5 (can't remember which).

Can this even be purchased with the NI voucher? Even if it can, the voucher doesn't completely cover the price.

Re: How Many of You Wish You Had a Place to Get Away to 4 Music?

when i lived with a girlfriend, it was a must to have a space elsewhere. mostly for vocals (i'm too self conscious to think about someone hearing my dry solo vocal takes), but even for other things. these days i live alone, so making music at home is fine. (standalone house, so neighbors aren't a pr...

Re: The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Resource Thread

How are knobs bad on a touchscreen? they work just like faders but take less space. At least that's how it is in nanostudio. You don't need to make a twisting gesture. Just touch it then drag up or down.

Re: Anyone using Cubase 5

I used Cubase 4, as in VST 4, you know, 10 years ago, before Steinberg started over with their counting for no apparent reason. (After Cubase 4 VST24 came Cubase 5 VST32, then SX, SX2, then I stopped paying attention.) I loved that OLD Cubase 4 program. Mae some great stuff with it. But I remember S...

what to spend $60 NI voucher on?

upgraded to Komplete 7. Got a $60 voucher for NI. a lot of their extra content titles cost $59. anyone checked any of these out? i'm thinking maybe massive expansion vol. 1 or vol. 2. or massive threat. (massive is the synth i use most. i found the built in presets to be pretty lame. if these expans...

Re: The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Resource Thread

does nanostudio allow you to record audio tracks (e.g., vocals, acoustic guitar)? i think the answer is no. do any of these pocket DAW apps allow that?

if so, how do people get a decent (though obviously just for sketch purposes) audio signal into their iphone? using the onboard mic?

thanks.

Re: The iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch Resource Thread

Just curious... you folks using nanostudio, beatmaker, or the like to sketch ideas on the go... what headphones are you using with your iphone or ipod touch (or ipad)? I use the apple in-ear headphones (the previous generation, not the current ones with the mic), and I think for $40 they are pretty ...

Re: Undergrad and Graduate Music Degrees

Just to be clear... I did not mean that only independently wealthy people can or should get an advanced music degree. But if you're not independently wealthy you have to ask yourself whether it's worth it based on what your goals are. I have major respect for advanced music degrees. But based on wha...

Re: Undergrad and Graduate Music Degrees

i think if you want to be a music history or theory or performance professor at a college, then you need a degree for that. but if your aspiration is anything other than teaching classical or jazz (or maybe electronic music) at a college, a degree may be a waste of money. that is not to say it's a w...

Re: am I trying to run my Genelec 8030a's too loud?

Yeah, the 8030s and 8020s will clip if you drive even a moderate level of bass into them. -Luddy Wat? My 8030s don't clip with moderate levels of bass, in fact they've never clipped with anything I've played thru them, commercial or otherwise. I've only had mine for a month, but +1. Something must ...

Re: Post your set up and your sexy cat...

Relax, I didn't even mean it as criticism. I was just a bit baffled. :) Heck, if I had 1500 bucks to spend, I'd rather spend it on a better interface too, the mobile aspect is a big part of that. But: I spent 25 EUR on Basotect clippings I got on eBay, and another 25 on cheap fabric and some fiberb...
