Re: Portable, Road-Worthy Interface

An interesting mix of solutions, thanks guys! @Tarekith - that's a pretty slick little device, but yeah, I will want to record at least the Circuit (and if I don't have any self control, maybe my Xenophone too LOL). I don't need mic pres, but a pair of line inputs will be a necessity. @resident_m - ...

Portable, Road-Worthy Interface

Heading out on the road for the next 6 months, living in hotel rooms, so I'm considering what I want my traveling studio to look like. Right now, I'm down to a laptop, a MIDI keyboard, and maybe my Novation Circuit. Anyone have suggestions on a portable audio interface that would fit this setup? It ...

Moving to DC

Greetings all, Just accepted a new job today and will be spending most of the next six months in the Crystal City/Washington DC area. Any Ableton, electronic music, or Eurorack user groups up there? Any tips on the music scene or bits of local knowledge to share? I've been to DC a number of times on...

Re: Midi not launching at the correct time.

In Arrangement View there is. You can automate the tempo as a parameter of the Master track.

Re: Midi not launching at the correct time.

If I understand what you're doing there, the tempo is not set by the MIDI clips; it is set by the Scene. You can change the title of each scene to match the tempo you want by adding the tempo to the name of the scene. For more information, see page 110 of the Ableton Live manual.

Re: Multiple USB audio devices

From my experience on Windows, I don't think Live will not work with multiple devices unless all the sample rates match. Your issue might be that you can't bring every device to either 44.1k or 96k. Might be different on OSX. Someone else will have to chime in if this has been changed in Live 10--I ...

Re: Freezing VST INstruments without audio effects

Why not put the FX on a send/return track? Or if you want to duplicate the FX but they will have different settings for each track, put all the FX in a rack and save the rack in your browser? Then you could drag and drop it on other tracks as needed.

Re: Alternative folder locations

I'm not sure you can just move packs. You may need to reinstall them in the new folder location. As for the links in your earlier projects, I don't think you can fix thought without opening each one and restoring those links. I've found Live to be very picky about moving your source sound and clip f...

Re: Basslines: Different behavior on different notes? Help!

Are you using a sample or an instrument? I'm guessing this is a MIDI track with an instrument on it. If so, what instrument and how is it setup, especially the preset name if it has one.

Re: Cutting and saving sample slices.

Maybe drag and drop them into your clip browser? You can set up custom folders in the browser to save clips, samples, MIDI, etc. Then they are available in any other projects in the future. Is that what you meant?

Re: Beginners Community

I'd add: Blend.io KVR Forums - Music Cafe Blend.io was specifically created for sharing, peer review, and collaboration, as you upload your Live Project files along with a wav preview file. You can mark whether the track is "draft", "almost there", "finished" etc. It analyzes your project file and d...

Re: Cutting and saving sample slices.

I like using Wavosaur for this. Very easy to learn and use, and you can zoom all the way down to individual sample points quickly. It makes finding the exact point of those zero-crossings much easier so your sample clips don't click. I believe it will even batch process files, although I haven't use...

Re: How To Play Library Samples Using Midi Keyboard Controller?

You're on the right track. To play your samples with a MIDI controller, the plug-in device you need is either Simpler or Sampler. Unfortunately, neither of these are included with Live Lite. Live Standard includes Simpler. Live Suite includes both. I know Sampler can be purchased separately, but I'm...

Re: Good studio monitors for EDM music?

Some people, including me, have found the HS7's to be a little light on the low end, but I'm starting to realize that I've got some kind of "room node" problem that is cancelling the bass because there is a ton of bass behind the speakers, and in front closer to the floor. 8O  Looking at runnin...

Re: midi signals not being converted into sound

Since you're new to all this (or at least to Live), I would highly recommend taking Coursera's free course "Introduction to Ableton Live". It's an excellent class and will really get you started. https://www.coursera.org/learn/ableton-live I would also highly recommend Jake Perrine's book, "Producin...
