Re: midi signals not being converted into sound

Yes, you need an instrument on the MIDI track. The MIDI data coming from your controller is only information, like note on/off, pitch, velocity, etc. The instrument is the device that translates that information into the sounds of a piano, trumpet, synthesizer, or whatever. There must have been an i...

Re: midi signals not being converted into sound

What instrument are you routing your MIDI signals to inside Live?

Re: Hardware v software 303 emulations and Live

I agree with pretty much everything said up to this point, but would like to clarify one thing. You *can* automate the Volca Bass (and most hardware that has MIDI) from inside Live. A quick look at the Volca Bass' MIDI implementation chart shows that the following could be automated using CC message...

Re: Stereo Panning not noticeable

Sounds like you're using balance panning (Live 9) and you're using a sample where most of the sound is coming from the center. If that's the case, panning is just reducing the audio level on the left and right as you pan, but since there isn't much information there, it doesn't sound like it's doing...

Re: Trying to open a project that relies on simpler

By "mid-tier", do you mean Standard? Simpler comes with Live Standard, but the project may require the latest version of Simpler, if you're using Live 8 or an early version of Live 9.

Re: Youtube dispute - because someone else used the same samples

My experience of this is limited, but I can share what I had to do for SoundCloud. If you file a dispute, the track should ultimately be reviewed by an actual human. In the dispute form, you will need to cite where your sample came from and an excerpt from the user agreement that gives you permissio...

Sound On Sound did a pretty thorough review of that Behringer mixer. I looked into it when I was trying to figure out what to do about my driver situation.

Re: How to use a USB Mixer in Ableton

Yeah, my thoughts would echo jestermgee's. It all comes down to budget and space--and I'd probably have two devices if I had the desk space. The analog/digital mixer interface I was referring to is was the Mackie Onyx 1640i. For reasons I've never understood, this is the only mixer in the Onyx-i lin...

Re: How to use a USB Mixer in Ableton

I was thinking more along the lines of an analogue mixer yet i am open to using a digital. My main concern is being able to mix and control my levels on the hardware. I want to have to use my mouse the least amount possible. I’d like to have at least 16 channels and at least 4 busses but i am willi...

Re: Simpler/Sampler Voices Issue

Sounds like you aren't cutting the sample at zero crossings at the beginning and end. Easy to do in either Simpler or Sampler. Do the other products you mention automatically cut at the zero crossing? But as you've mentioned, unless you cut the sample as the zero crossings, it will click regardless ...

Re: Alternative Mute functionality for midi and sends

If the primary goal is to avoid the pops and clicks, here are some things to try. For some reason, Live will pop/click when turning virtual switches off/on, especially with automation. However, it doesn't do that if you turn virtual knobs. Rather than muting the MIDI track, how about turning the vol...

Re: How to use a USB Mixer in Ableton

Yep, old guy too. Funny, because Mackie didn't make drivers for the Onyx-i series past Win7 which has pushed me to go the analog mixer+interface route too. Replacing over 350 capacitors in that Tascam has brought my soldering skills back up to aerospace-grade level after decades of disuse, so all th...

Totally agree. When the last of the back-order capacitors arrive in February, I'll be finishing that Tascam mixer refurb and doing the same thing.

Re: How to use a USB Mixer in Ableton

There's a lot to consider when deciding to add a mixer to your set up. A lot of USB mixers only allow you to send a summed stereo mix to your DAW, rather than the individual channels, so shop carefully and avoid the lower price ranges where this is typical. Are you thinking a digital or analog mixer...

Re: Ableton drumrack

Did you make sure to cut your samples at zero crossings? Sounds like you might be getting the click associated with that.
