Re: Why I stopped using most third party plug-ins
This is a good point, and I agree to an extent. My philosophy differs however. I've bought a number of plugins over time, many because they were on sale and provided functionality that I didn't currently have in a single compressor. I've found now there are really only a few that I go to and I get t...

Re: Possibly get some feedback on my mix down?
I don't listen to much hip hop/R & B these days, so I'm not sure really what that genre typically sounds like. The mix sounded fine to me, but the one thing I noticed was the vocals seemed to dry. They could be jazzed up subtly, but that subtle change can make a world of difference. Check out mixbus...

Re: A beginners starter kit to plugins on Ableton Live 9
FabFilter bundle really can't be beat. EQ2 and Pro-C are incredibly useful as is Pro-L. But Saturn is fantastic for multi-band distortion/saturation and Pro-MB for multi-band compression. u-he's Zebra is still my favorite and most versatile softie. Vallhalla for reverbs at an incredible price. But t...

Re: iOS Synth Audio Recording
I use iConnectMidi4+. It's a bit of a pain in Windows because I have to use ASIO4ALL to get the audio in, but once I have the audio recorded, I can switch back to my RME drivers while arranging/mixing.
It also functions as the MIDI brains of my entire studio.

Re: DJ Gear - Been on Traktor for a long time, looking pioneer?
Build quality of a Pioneer DJM 900 or 2000 and CDJ 900 or 2000 is much better than an S4/S8. Most used in clubs, and closest thing to a standard is probably DJM 900/2000 and CDJ 2000. And yes, there are better places to ask questions. Digital DJ Tips, DJ Tech Tools, etc. This is a more Live specific...

Re: Air Display anyone? (iPad as 2nd monitor)
Will be interesting to see, especially now that DAW like Studio One are fully touch friendly. Checked their What's New out. I Do kind of need another audio interface ... :P Lots of Live-similar features and that scratchpad looks handy. Plus, their own app in the works haha The scratch pad is awesom...

Re: Stuck
I'll go contrary to the others. Just go and finish the tune you have halfway there. If you get stuck and move onto another project, you'll never get to the point where you finish something. Even if it sucks, finish it. You can always come back and change it later. And even if it sucks, you'll get th...

Re: Studio One 3 versus Logic Pro X to complement Live...
I don't know Logic, but I've been using Studio One to mix and Live to arrange for a while now. Studio One is a fantastic tool for mixing and mastering, composing, not so much. Ease of use, intuitive, and fast as others have said. The v3 capabilities don't necessarily improve these things, but do add...

Re: How do you route slices from drum rack through rewire?
First of all, you need to route the individual pads in your drum rack to its own audio track. Create a new audio track in Live, set the Audio From to your Drum Rack and it's pad. You can choose pre-fader, etc. here. Once you have that, re-wiring shouldn't be a problem, at least it hasn't been for me...

Re: your favorite plugins/bundles
Definitely FabFilter. I've got a couple waves plugs and they're good stuff. Wouldn't want to go for a bundle though, especially with the WUP and have had some other issues demoing, getting setup initially. Decent stuff though. Waiting on Soundtoys 5 to come out since I can't be hassled with Dongles,...

Re: Hardware connections to Ableton
It really depends on how you want to play/sequence them from an audio perspective. If you want them all to play at once either an interface with enough inputs (don't forget you can usually expand some interfaces with ADAT to get more inputs) or a mixer with enough channels going into your interface....

Re: flats instead of sharps
I know my way around musical keys and scales pretty well, and I have to say it's never confused me. In fact, I never look at the note it says, but rather at the piano keys instead of any displayed notes. I'm not sure if you're a keys player or guitar or some other instrument where the piano keys are...

Re: Is Ableton Live suitable for any kind of real work?
I rarely use M4L. It's been known to have issues. But just for the record, there are a lot of things that could contribute to a crash. NI's Replika always causes any of my browsers to crash because I refuse to have to update my graphic drivers for a free, albeit decent delay. Moral of the story, I w...

Re: Korg MS20 mini as master keyboard/midi controller
Sorry to bring back this old thread but it may be most proprietary for my noob question. If I have understood correctly MS20 mini simply does not have local off midi functionality ? What I mean is that I cannot play some VSTI with MS20 mini's keyboard same time as sequencer is playing another seque...

Re: Volume levels in audio from returns >< master
I am finding that volume recorded from my sends into audio differs from volume going from sends to master. This problem arises because when exporting selected tracks for making stems, you can't select both ordinary tracks and return tracks at the same time To work around this, I have taken to recor...
