I kind of don't want that to be the best answer ($400 is a lot, especially since I'll be upgrading to 8 at around the same time, unless they update 7 to use the APC right when it comes out), but you're probably right. I might pick up a nanokontrol to tide me over, though... the idea of using the vs-...

Playing live questions/a "what controller?" thread

What controller(s) and external gear do you use? What are the knobs/buttons/sliders on your controller(s) bound to? another way to read that is what effects/functions do you like to have hands-on control of when you perform? How are your tracks set up within Live? This is mostly directed at live PA ...

I tapped some of the keys on an unplugged MPK at Guitar Center once and was immediately turned off. They were way too springy for my taste. I don't own the Electro but I've spent quite a while with GC's Stage 88 and it sounds really good and plays well. Then again, I don't play keys.

There was a box in development that had some very limited capabilities (a pretty bad processor, a single mini-plug out, or something like that) but it would do just what beats is asking for. I don't remember the name of the company, though. So I'm kind of useless. I think it was on Create Digital Mu...

Thanks for all the replies. I'm leaning away from Mac right now. I've run Windows all my life, although I'm equally competent with Macs since we have them at school. I no longer have issues with Windows XP, and I like having the control over the OS that Windows affords (I swear, having .app files th...

New laptop--what to get?

I think I need a new laptop. I've been using a 16" Vaio that weighs 10 pounds, runs for an hour and half on batteries if I keep CPU usage to a minimum, and has a 2.8ghz Pentium 4 desktop processor. I want something I can take around with me in a backpack and use to run Live on batteries for a few ho...

the shopping experience at Sweetwater is hard to beat. If your looking for good kit, prices, service, deals, and a serious place, that really wants a musicians business. www.sweetwater.com This is pretty accurate too. they're moving that way to take on The Banjo Center but Best Buy are sleazy. I could go in there, buy a pack of gum and they'd still try to sell me one of their BULLSHIT protection plans. that's how they really make their money. I shop at both, the BBs near me don't have the upgrade but I've heard ...

Hey, if they want to compete with GC they can go for it. GC owns Musician's Friend, Music123, Woodwind & Brasswind, and I think AMS. So they're gunning for the monopoly too... Plus I had some bad experiences where GC and their affiliates lied to me over the phone something like 4 times, so anywhere ...

The thing no one has mentioned is that you may be trying to get audio into a midi track. Try right-clicking in the empty space in Session view and then choosing "create new audio track". Then look in the same place you've been looking and it may work. In Live, because of minor issues with translatin...

Puremagnetik Micropaks

I'm on a tight budget and I want to get a range of good drum samples into my library. I'm looking at PM's Microdrum right now. Does anyone have that or another micropak they could tell me about? Do you get access to the individual samples? Are they high-quality and useable?
