Old-school Hip-Hop question

For anyone making old-school hip-hop (stuff that sounds like Jurassic 5 mostly, Tribe Called Quest, DJ Format): can you describe how you make a beat? That sounds like a really stupid question, but what I really want to know is if you're layering a lot of sounds, how you get nice-sounding kicks and s...

^nice. Like how you fit a drum kit in the corner there. Is that in an attic? and what do you take to play out?

Workaround elf alert! There are a couple ways you can do this. The first one is to, while your track is playing, move the loop markers (while loop is off, you can still see them) to where you want the track to loop to and from, then activate the loop switch. It'll loop once it gets to that point. Th...

You're definitely right that they need tweaking. If you go into garageband and load up one of those presets, expand the bar on the left where you pick the instrument so you can see the effects and settings (I'd be more specific but I'm on windows and I've only occasionally used garageband). They pro...

(Free) SysEx utility for Windows?

Happy new year all! What I'm looking for is a sysex translator for Windows, preferably free. I want to do some simple stuff with my padKontrol in native mode, just triggering MIDI and Sysex messages from sysex messages coming in. I don't want to buy max (blew my holiday money on an electribe) and Pd...

I've used it on and off a bit (haven't bought the full version, right now I use Pure Data, the free but terribly documented alternative) and it can be extremely useful. I mostly use it for midi processing tasks, although it can do a lot more stuff, you just have to learn it. Definitely worth it if y...

I ordered from Sweetwater, sent my sales engineer a scan of my ID and got the discount.

So it happens at point of sale.

So far it's just lots of money from relatives. By tomorrow (hopefully) it will be Sylenth1 (although I might just save for Reaktor which seems like more fun) and an Electribe MX!! I would've bought it sooner but my parents have promised to pay something like half of it once I finish my college apps ...

I think it helps somewhat if you have a warm-up act that play traditional instruments first, to get the crowd going. I say that because I just saw Eliot Lipp live and the crowd loved it and moved a lot, and he didn't have any moldover-style antics or exaggerated motions. He just pumped great music a...

Korg Electribe MX vs. something else

I'm looking for something to put my holiday dollars to. I like the idea of the electribe because right now I'm tethered to my computer whenever i want to write something, and my laptop is a pain to lug around. If it doesn't sound good, or it's only good for trance, though, I'm not really interested....

I didn't know that... that's pretty cool. so say if i want to incorporate an audio file.... but apply no warping to it......when i turn warp off......i cant ...

I love the title of this thread... Ableton has a little too much depth, sometimes, I think :) As far as actually recording movements of the loop brace to arrangement or to a clip, I don't think that's possible. I'm not sure about the actual logic of when the start marker follows or doesn't follow. I...

it's definitely a P with the tone knob at or close to 0. But I disagree with knot, I think it's neck pickup, not bridge.
